Hello ladies, I need some advice/help and I knew you guys would point me in the right track.

We are having our engagement party on Sat night and I have an appointment with my hairdresser to have my hair ''done'' for the night. Problem is, I have only had by hair put up about 5 times in my life, and I have never been 100% with it, and I didn''t want to go to the expense of having a trial for our eparty.

So, here is a linky to a thread with a few pics of me (excuse the extreme dagginess and red eyes). My hair is a bit longer now (only a inch or two) and it''s darker brown, but you get the idea and the shape of my face.

I was wondering can you guys suggest some inspirations for up-dos?

My fiance really doesn''t like it when I have a hair up with a pony tail, and then tights curls pinned to my head. We both like soft waves/curls in an up-do, but I want it to look less severe around the top of my head, like not just a pony tail, curled then pinned up?

Am I making any sense at all? No wonder I can''t get a hairdo that I like, I can''t even explain/understand what I want.

If I had some pics to print and take to the hairdresser, that would be great. I just want to look nice for our party. We have 110 guests coming and some of them I havn''t seen for ages, I don''t want to just let my hair dry naturally and wear it down (to be put into a messy ponytail when I get tipsy and start dancing

Thanks in advance! And thanks PS for being a great source of help when you need some

Honey - Regrettably, I can''t help you b/c I''m horrible with that stuff but one of our PS pros will swoop in and ensure that you are sorted and will look fabulous for your eparty ...

I just wanted to say ... HOW DID I MISS THAT THREAD WITH YOUR PICS??!

Hi honey, I was just looking for updos today too! I found Project Wedding really helpful, there are tons of pics!

I really like hair pulled half-way up, but not in the center, but pull it over towards the side where more of you hair parts, does that make sense....it tends to soften up the hair thats pulled back. wrap a small section of your hair around the ponytail holder and pin it underneath, and you can always add some crystal pins or a flower or something, and then curl all of your hair. Its pretty easy to do...you could probably do it at home.

Thanks Shimmer, that is a great site, I will be up all night picking a favorite!! Will be a good practise run for the wedding too I guess.

lala2332, sounds gorgeous, and totally not like my hair! It always seems to screw up, I have no idea how to put it up, the most creative I get is a ponytail for work. I don''t even own bobby bins, how sad of me

I am so jealous of people that can do their own hair, I still get twinges of the green eyed monster when I see Iwanna''s wedding pics, her hair is just stunning

Honey22 - You just described my pet peeve when it comes to updo''s. Like you, I don''t like when an updo looks like a plain ponytail in the front and is then is all tightly pinned up and fancy in the back. Of course it is all just a personal preference....perhaps you can have your stylist try twisting some large sections of hair towards the back and pinning them in place. It should help add more volume to the front!

Not to toot my own horn, but I was pleased with my wedding updo. I had 5 semi-loose twists in the front and then my stylist gently pinned curls up in the back.

I''ll try to post a couple pictures to give you a better idea.

The back:

The front (w/ MOH)....you can see how it has a little bit of volume, but the twists are soft.

Hope this helps!

Hrmm something like these maybe?

lots of height and volume

Just maybe make it a little less structured around the face

If you want to attempt your hair yourself I can tell you what I do to mine it generally looks nice and is easy as pie. You will need bobby pins though

Get your hair and pop it into a pony tail with the back tucked up underneath it (as in looped).

Pull it tight and fan the back loop a little.

Grab sections and pin them into your hair, form into a messy loose bun (looks good when done right) Make sure to hide the bobby pins in the hair.

Pull little sections out around your face and style your fringe into a side sweep.

Takes a couple of tries and some practice :).

I love the first one Dee. Good luck girl, my hair trial has been my favorite part of the wedding planning so far!
