So...guess who I got an email from!

Thats right!

JONATHAN! YAY! THEY SOURCED MY ROUGH! YAY!

That means your next in line! I''m so excited! I dont know when everything will be done *my wedding is the 23rd...so I''m hoping its done before then!* but I''m just happy that they have found the right goods!

If I can have it done before the wedding I''m planning on sending my current ring to Jonathan to have them add milgrain to my setting, and then buying a plain 14K WG 2mm milgrain band that matches it until I can save up for my custom pear sidestone vintage inspired setting!

How are you holding up! Are you dying like I am!

YAY!

OMG!!!!!! Congratulations.

I can''t believe how quick he is. You MUST keep me abreast of progress and post TONS of pictures.

I know! I emailed him less than a month ago about it...however a month ago when I emailed him it was a "keep an eye out because we''re getting ready to buy" and then a week later it was..."I''m ready!" LOL!

I''m really excited! I didnt hear back from him today...I''m assuming he has to email to find out the ~ time when it will be ready to be cut and shipped out before he can tell me yea or nea if it will be ready before the wedding on the 23rd.

Here is the band I''m getting though...not to exciting, no side stones or anything...but I''m saving almost EVERY PENNY for my custom setting!

Here it is!

The band is very classy and I''m with you; every penny is on the OMC and a gorgeous setting to compliment its beauty.

Thanks! I''m sure it will be worth all the tuna egg salad sandwiches that I''m eating instead of getting fast food (5.00 five times a week is 25.00 a week...which is 100.00$$ a month I can save towards my setting

)

Wanna see my inspiration pics?

I''ll show you mine...if you show me yours

Congrats! I got a potential rough but it''s not exactly right. I can''t wait to see yours!

Of course I''d love to see your inspiration pictures. Mine, unfortunately, is a blank page at this point because I can''t think up of anything yet.

Charmy,
What''s not right with the rough?

Here are the 2 i have so far...not perfect but getting there!

I dont care much for the knife edge...just the pear side stones!

Charmy,
What's not right with the rough?
Not really the right shape. It's more elongated so you get a better bang for the buck if it is cut rectangular. Of course, Jon is great and will cut to my specs (square) but I am hesistant that it will be too big. I will be completely happy with a smaller size which comes with an added advantage of a lower price tag!

By the way, I love that Leon ring.

I like my ring only "slightly" rectangular, not perfectly square...so mines working for me! How exciting! We have 3 people getting the new cushions! YAY!

As for the LM setting...everytime I look at it my heart skips a beat! It is TDF! I LOVE IT! Add some beautiful pear sides stones to that baby w/a matching e-ring and you''ve got a winner! Oh...and his classic beautiful heads that he does! Its not fit w/o beautiful claw prongs w/ some sort...not quite THIS fancy...but close!

Who should I have do it? Ari, brian, or leon? I really dont care much for platinum...I dont like the weight of it, I really am considering palladium...would that be better or 18K wg?

See''s how cost isnt really a factor...I can save up for however long I want to...well...maybe I''ll upgrade to slightly under 2 carats before then...hmmm...I guess we''ll have to see the bling that Jonathan is cooking up for me first!

It might be the perfect size for this.

What do you think? A size 4 finger w/ a stone 1.25-1.4 carats w/proportioned pear side stones....or should I invest more in the stone before I get the perfect setting?

To be honest...I havent seen the cushion yet...but I have a feeling that its going to be my "forever" stone...or at least my 10-20 yr stone...I think thats a very nice size for my finger and if I do the setting I like...well...I think it will be perfect!

Decsions!

RR,
We have almost the same finger size too! I like 4.25 in winter and 4.5 in summer. I would like my OMC to be as square as possible though. A 1.04 ratio is pushing it.
9.gif
I'm not a fan of PT but it'll do if the setting is nice. Never say never to upgrades because who knows what GOG will come out with next.

I know right! I think my "ideal ideal" size would be slightly under 2carats....but I have to work for something! I''ve only had my cushette for a little over a year!

I''m shipping that baby out as soon as I get the address to send it to!

OMG! We really are twins. I''ve had my modern cushion for 16 months too.

LOL! Well...when are you planning your next upgrade? we should do it together next time too! LOL!

Hopefully not for a long time. This OMC should scratch that itch for a couple of years.

WOW, this is exciting!!

Redrose, can you share the procedures of ordering custom cushions from GOG? You can specify the colour, clarity, carat weight that you want and the budget, right? But how about some specific details like measurements, ratio, outline (like how bulgy, etc), faceting (e.g. to pick a particular faceting that appeals to you most out of the numerous 8-pav chunky cushions you have seen as an example)? And is there a premium for having a custom?

I''ll closely follow this thread. Please continue to post your progress, and most improtantly, the final yummy product!!
30.gif

Yes, I specified the colour, clarity and carat weight (although in my case, I specified the mm because I’m trying to hit a target size and carat weight are not accurate because of varying depths from stone to stone). I also gave Jon a ratio because I want an OMC as square as possible. There is no premium for the request. The only difference is he’s specifically looking for the most appropriate rough for cutting which of course guarantees him the sale. There is no need to request faceting pattern or outline or anything else because these OMCs are cut to very specific parameters that do not vary much from stone to stone, thus earning the privilege of being called GOG’s signature OMC. In short, if it doesn’t meet the look and light return, it is kicked to the curb (or sent back for recutting).

Me too!!

RedRose - If you want to go with palladium, I don''t think Leon will do it. You might have to find other options.

I know leon only works with platinum...and I dont think I like the weight of platinum enough to pay the extra money to use it. I''ll probably go with Ari or brian for my custom setting when the funds are saved up. I didnt give Jon a mm size...although thinking back I probably should have! Oh well, I''m really hoping the rough he soured is towards the top of my list and not the lower end (1.25-1.45). Jon was really great about it...I emailed him and said "Hey I love the new cushions...my hubby said I have 2K to upgrade with...is it possible to get a I or J, eyeclean (my super eyeclean, from hours of looking for the inclushion and not finding it ) as close at least 1.25 carats, but prefer 1.5 carats. Jon said I can probably expect to get 1.4 with the budget, so I''m crossing my fingers for at least 1.3, lol.

I also told jonathan that I really love the medium/large/very large culet. I have NO CLUE why...I just do
9.gif

So I told him if it doesnt effect the light preformence...to add that in

Chrono,
just on the last point I would appreciate if you could help me by elaborating a lil..
So has GOG basically established *one* facet pattern for these old-style chunky cushions?
Say like, if I look through the vimeo''s and there is a facet pattern/shape of a cushion I really like,
can that be requested?
Or is it one facet pattern, than custom order the size, colour, clarity etc?
(I can link to the video in Question if need be for explanation - from memory, I don''t think
it was a GOG-cut one, but a hand-picked cushion)..

Sorry if that was a bit muddled, it''s late here lol..

Also, I like mine pretty much square, like you - but I''m just starting to learn here.
Should I also ask for a 1.04L-W?

AJ,
This is how I understand it:
I believe that GOG''s signature OMC has only one facet pattern. You can only request the other 3 C''s.

If there is another facet pattern that you like, you can request Jon to look one up for you but it may not have the lifetime upgrade policy, and will most likely take a longer time to find.

I asked for a ratio of 1:1 but will go up to 1:1.04 max.

Thanks C!

Just one more thing - that second one in the video that we all liked, would you mind to share the specs here?
It would just help me with a decision/more knowledge..
(including L:W if known?)..

thanks hon, your reply was spot on what I wanted to know

I recall that one is a perfect square. E VS1 if I'm not mistaken. Unfortunately, I don't know the dimensions and didn't ask because I knew it'll be way above my budget.

Hi Chrono, thanks for the info. Do you know where I can see the GOG signature OMC facet pattern? And is there an open culet in the signature faceting?

Hi Chrono, thanks for the info. Do you know where I can see the GOG signature OMC facet pattern? And is there an open culet in the signature faceting?
You can see it in the "Chunk in the Trunk" video where all 4 OMCs have exactly the same faceting pattern. The culet is large per GIA grading. It is also observable in the video. I think what I called OMC2 (1.07 ct G VS2 cushion) is back on his website. If he''s updated the picture, you should also be able to see a static picture of the facet pattern.

RedRose - Try reaching out to Maytal to get a quote. I found her prices to be very competitive compared to two out of the three vendors mentioned. I have never gotten a quote from Brian so I can''t compare.

You girls are bad. Bad, bad, bad, bad, bad. I just spoke with Jon.
