I got a pair of 3-prong martinis from WF and unfortunately my ears are not happy. The pressure from putting them on rather tightly (not as tight as they will go but but tight enough to make them stand up straight) is making my tender earlobes red and sometimes almost bleeding. I''m hoping that if I get them reset into a mounting that doesn''t have a point pushing against my lobe, I''ll do better. WF has been wonderful. They are truly the online Nordies for customer service. They have offered to remount them either in a 4-prong basket or an 8-prong martini setting. I''ve seen postings on PS about the 8-prong that are postive. Can anyone comment on the flatness of the bottom against the ear vs. a four-prong basket or a 3-prong martini? For those who have the 8-prong martini, what made you purchase them? You just liked the appearance?
Thank you for any help!

SDS - I don''t have them ... yet

so I can''t help you in that regard, however, I just wanted to let you know that I love them as well and give you a *bump* so that someone else might be able to help.

Sorry the 3 prong martinis aren''t working for you.

There is a thread (or several threads) about this somewhere; in one of them, Mara posted some pics from one of her pilgrimages to WF.

Have you done a search?

BTW, what size are your studs?

Thanks for the replies. Sparkalicious, why are you wanting these? Do you think they will sit better than four-prongs? No drooping?
Lynn, I did look at the thread about these but I''m wanting to know how flat/comfortable the back is resting against ears compared to four prong or three prong martinis.
I got 80 and 83 points, K color. Your post about going down in color to get bigger was my inspiration.
thank you.

SDS - I have been eyeing these and the "W-prong" studs (love these) up b/c I just like the way that they look. I''m not sure about how they will sit but once I go through with getting the diamonds I will definitely be trying them all. I don''t tend to have a problem with drooping w/earrings and I hope I won''t with whichever ones I ultimately choose.

I''m really glad that you are going to go ahead and change the 3 prong martinis if they are bothering your ears ... You should be able to wear your new K babies without suffering!

I have the 4-prong basket and they're very comfortable and sit flat against my ears, but they do droop ever so slightly because I don't tighten my earrings up very much (earrings are .41 each stone). I'd rather have them droop a bit than have the martinis which are known to stretch out earholes.

ETA - what size are your stones?

Wow, I'm honored! And soooooo glad you are happy! Are there photos somewhere around here that I have missed? If so, could you please direct me to the link? If not, um, GET BUSY, Missy!!!

One other thought, perhaps you can get the oversized push-on backs when you get your new settings. I don't have any personal experience, but I have heard that can really help earrings from drooping.

Do you have any other photos? Ear shots? Flower shots?! Any other shots at all?! They are BEAUTIES!!!

And one more thing, I wear my martini studs very comfortably all day, but I DO NOT sleep in them. I think that may be part of your problem. Have you tried just wearing them through the day, and removing them at night?

No other photos yet. Will try to get ear shots one of these days. I do have the jumbo backs and they do help a lot with holding earrings up. I have not been sleeping with earrings on. Tried it at first but they bothered me so I stopped. I went shopping today and tried on some four prongs. I really don''t think they look square and the drooping is not bad if you have the big backs and tighten them. Right now tightening seems to be a bit of a problem though. My WF SA thinks the 8 prongs have a less pointy back than the three prong martinis so they would be another option. Wish I could try some on. Thanks for the advice.

Sparkalicious, love your kitty pic. So how will you be trying the W prong plus the three, and 8 prongs? Do you in Texas? I wish I could see the 8prong IRL...no one in San Diego has them and even if they did I''m not sure they''d be the same as WF. Thanks for your support.

I have the 4 prong baskets and they do not droop at all. They gave me nice size friction backs and as long as you have them on securely, they shouldn''t droop at all. They have a flat base so they sit flat against the earlobe. Maybe it would be a problem with really large stones, but I have had no issues with .75 each.

Thanks Diamondseeker. I have tried on the baskets and when tightened with large backs I think they stand up quite well. the question for me is whether I can wear them tightened without the irritation I get when I tighten the martinis. If I get the four prong baskets and I have trouble wearing them tightened, then they will droop more than the martinis. But since I would have something flat pressing on my ears rather than something pointed, maybe it would be less irritating. That is the big question.

SDS, Are your current 3prong martini''s WG? If so, you may possibly have a metal allergy. I have WF''s 3prong martini''s in handmade platinum and they are VERY comfortable.

hi! are your piercings new? i recently got 1ct each stud from wf. they are set in 3 prong platinum martini mountings. i did want the 8 prong but did not want to pay the extra money at this time since i had only intended to get the .75 each ear and then went up to 1 ct each.

i only use platinum due to allergy and extremely sensitive skin. i have had no problems with the 3 prong. i do push the backs up until they are completely against the skin but i don''t force them so it causes pain. i also would not be wearing any earring if my ears were inflamed. i do not wear earrings unless i will be going out of the house and definitely would not sleep, shower or lay down for a rest with earrings on. it took me several years to learn that my skin just was not going to like those things and i don''t think it is best for the earrings either. others do all of these things and have no trouble but we are all not the same. i am not sure what is causing your skin irritation could you elaborate?

I had my ears repierced a little over a year ago and have had trouble getting them healed completed. I got the diamond studs mounted in platinum as the doctor said platinum or 24 karat gold are best for people with sensitivities. I don''t sleep in my earrings....I do keep them in from the time I get up to almost bed time. I don''t want the holes to close up. I am now wearing the earring backs looser in the hope that less pressure on the ears will help them feel better.
