Hello All!! I think I found my CUSHION!!! Its an Antique cut, 2.7- however, I am sacrificing color for size...I have had a J in the past (1st marriage), and for the most part loved, but always thought that I wanted something a little "icier white"...The Size, style, ratio, cutlet size are all perfect...and I am pretty sure I am going to pull the trigger...but wanted to see what a J looked like on others, and your opinions as "J" owners...
 
I was in the Atlanta Tiffany's on Christmas Eve. A man was being shown a Legacy in a "J" color. I had not seen a J in there before, but they are selling them now.
 
I have a ''J'' coloured cushion (sorry I don''t have any pics) and I love it, I think the warmer colours suit cushions IMO.

I have a well-cut mid-J RB (2.7ct)

It doesn't look like a G or an H from any angle, but I'm loving it for what it is and its setting showcases it nicely

I think if you go into it knowing you're getting a slightly tinted stone you can be very happy even if in an ideal world have a higher colour, but if you're expecting an H and hoping cut or setting will mask the colour you're likely to be disappointed.
 
Sorry, I really don''t have any pics of my Cushion. It''s an GOG AVC 1.82 J SI1, at least that''ll give you an idea what it looks like.

I'm going to make a small confession here.

I have an F and J and I prefer the J for its depth, earthiness and richness- it's warm and scintillating, it blends into all environments and picks up tints in a natural way- very subtle and constantly shifting to adjust to the light. The blinding white of higher colors can be very consistent, and a bit cold for me.
 
Like GG, I also have a whiter diamond, an ''E'' colour AGS ideal RB, I find my ''J'' has more character and charm than my ''E'', although I do love my RB but for totally different reasons.
 
I have a high J now, probably closer to an I. You can find my thread easily in my archive.

I have owned .45ct D and F color ECs, a .60ct F, a .80ct J, a 1.16ct K, a 1.2ct G, and now a 1.66ct J RB. So I know my colors well

I loooove this J and like chamois and GG say, one of the things I love about it is how much it changes. The depth and personality. I love the colororless range too for different reasons -- the crispness of the light, the "brightness" of the stones. I don''t think I really prefer one or the other, sometimes I wish my J was crisper and brighter, but I would miss its personality if I went up in color. Best to have one of each

You have to embrace your diamond for what it is. Unless people you know are total diamond nuts, though, if you do not tell them the color I can guarantee no one will notice its tint. The J color is a subtle warmth, and only if you hold it next to a colorless stone can you even really detect it.
 
Thank you everyone for sharing, its really making me feel better about moving forward...its tough, because I am not going to see the diamond before its completed. My FI will make the purchase and then its up to He and Leon to move forward from there...of course, I will provide all necessary input to ensure that the operation is successful

I am currently in CA...so a quick jaunt to Leon will not be possible, as much as I would LOVE to meet him...
 
I have three Js and two Is. I love the subtle warmth. Never had any issues with my warmer stones.
 
I had this diamond on hold and think it is a beautiful stone, it was hard to let it go but I have bought an Infinity 2.73 RB N color from Wink Jones.

You should go for it, I think you will be very pleased.
 
Bright Ice- I complimented you on another post about it, so when Perry presented it to me, I was ecstatic!! Quick quesiton for you, how long did you put it on hold? And did you put down a deposit? Im thinking about contacting Perry via email tomorrow to hold this guy... What made you pass it up?

I recently got a J coloured RB through BGD. I''m no expert with diamonds, so I was a little concerned about the colour, but it faces up really white and I completely love it. It is .805 ideal cut. Hopefully the photos attach ok and you can have a look...the pics aren''t the best as they were just taken with my phone.

Have you chosen a setting?

Has Mark @ ERD presented you with any stones yet? He never showed me anything, after waiting days so I went with the stone Perry showed me. Actually Perry and I discussed 4 stones, but the one I went with was the most elongated. When I spoke with Leon, he said it was a lovely stone and if I didn''t buy it, he would.

Looks like our rings will be made right about the same time!
 
I have a J oec. It''s a .85, and I like the color. These are the only 2 pics I have on this PC, showing the ring in sunlight.

Does the J center stone look noticably different/yellower/tinted in a ring set with sidestones?
Or is that part of its charm?
Would setting a J in yellow gold make it look warmer/yellower than in white gold?
Sorry if these are silly questions but I''m brand new to PS and trying to learn more.

Yay...after getting a new computer yesterday I''ve been able to get to the better pictures of my new ring, so can now share them with you. These should hopefully be better in showing the J colour than the ones I put up last night...

Chicky- Mark has contacted me, he has one stone he is going to show me- but its a 2.51, and while a Brillaint Cut- its NOT an Antique... Leon''s was much more beautiful...UNFORTUNATELY, my FI has taken this project away from me...he wants it to be a surprise...So, while I will continue to follow your progress, I will not know what mine is....I will post my pic as soon as I get my ring...prob in 8-10 weeks...boo....pout...sniff

In many cases, you could order a mounting with J sidestones. I think the color difference is a moot point with pave''. It might be more of an issue with larger sidestones, a row of channel-sets, or a "wall" of baguettes.

It''s possible that smaller J diamonds in all YG, like my channel-set YG wedding band, might look more tinted. I had those stones taken out and made into a cocktail ring where they are in WG. They look much whiter now.

Setting a larger like .33 ct & up diamond in YG (or YG shank with WG head) probably won''t make it seem warmer. But YG may enhance a low J better than a bright white metal would. Some Js, like one that I have, just speak up and say "I''m a YG or rose gold stone." If you can see the loose stone in dropped into a YG mounting, then put it into a white metal and compare it both ways, that''s the best way to decide which one.
 
Like many, I sacrificed color for size, and I am very pleased with my decision. My ring is a 1.7 round brilliant set in white gold with baguettes, and the color really is neglible. I can see in certain lighting conditions (for some reason the faded but harsh lighting in my local grocery store is where I notice it the most) that the stone comes off looking, for lack of a better word, a bit 'pale.' Not yellow, not dull, but softer in color as opposed to an icy white that higher colors offer. But to be honest it doesn't bother me, it faces up beautifully and, because of the Excellent color, cut, and polish, the high quality creates a sparkle I haven't seen in my friends' rings. Also, the white gold setting doesn't seem to affect the color in any way; I am not really a yellow gold fan so I never saw my diamond in any other setting but white gold/platinum does not seem to exagerrate any yellow tint. One more thing... I have noticed most people commenting about J color is being able to see tint from the side, and I accidentally found a solution to that-I picked the setting simply because I liked it, but found that because it has a somewhat enclosed basket, or whatever it's called, instead of just prongs, I can't really see the sides of the stone very much so it's a non-issue. So, here are the pics
