Calling all IDJ Jackets owners

Thanks. Don't understand why I was sold the wrong size but glad that it all worked out in the end.

I agree - I think the jackets suit your stud size much better now that you have 9 not 10 stones, JLW05. Wonder why you had that # before??? Does that change the way other studs will fit in the jackets now?

I can't say why I was sold the ten stone jackets when it seems clear to me now (thank you again Elfriede) that those were jackets for 3/4 carat each stones. The smaller jackets will definitely affect how other studs will fit into the jackets. For example, my pearls are between 5.5 & 6.0mm and will no longer fit properly in the jackets. I will just buy smaller pearls but luckily I bought the earring jackets just for my diamond studs and don't have other studs at this point to mix and match. I am more a hoop person. Lucky for me as I was toying with the idea of ordering a pair of sapphires - 5.5 mm (I would be much safer ordering 5mm sapphires now) and was wavering because I was nervous about picking out sapphires and also because I have spent a bit more than I had budgeted for jewelry these past several months.

I hear ya on that one!!! What started about a year ago as a solitaire to a 3 ring upgrade, has exploded to an insane amount of diamonds in a short period of time! I had 1 engagement ring for 20 years, then a bigger solitaire for 6 more... now... yikes, I hate tallying up what I've spent on myself in terms of jewellry (diamonds and gemstones) over this past year. Insane! ...

But good to know you will still have alternate studs to fit your jackets!

Glad it worked out well for you, JLW! They look like a perfect fit and are beautiful on your ears!

Hi..! A little late here but I did finally get my 5.5mm spess' set and into my jackets. Here's a pic.

They fit great, but I did have them set into 4 prong martinis that are slightly larger/deeper than my 5mm's and as such they sit slightly higher on the ear. At first I didn't like them 'as much' as my lower set 5mm's which look more like they are part of the jacket rather than a jacket+a stud, but now I really like them and they look GREAT on the ears! So I would totally recommend it, just get the 5.5mm stone set as low as possible into your martini. I wouldn't go larger though. Best of luck! I love the jackets. And I think mine are the 22 3 pointers.

I have the same plan for the jackets, good that we found out that 5,5 wont fit very well. And I hear you as well about juwelry purchases..pricescope is very cruel to family kasse :wink2:

Your new lemonade studs are gorgeous, Mara! Thank you for posting them! I see that they fit similar to HOT studs which are 5.5mm as well. Uhh..I think it is too high for my liking, so going to aim for 5 mm sapphires in future. But thank you for your great support.

I still didnt get a word from IDJ about the jackets. That makes me think about saving a bit more and just order Adwar jackets through BGD. They are really unbelievable in terms of customer service and quality of diamonds and finishing but again pricey...hm..decisions decisions.

Mara - your spess studs look AMAZING in those jackets!!! WOWZA!!

Mara, your Spess studs look yummy in those jackets :lickout:

I MUST have some of these jackets :Up_to_something:

I would try and email again Efriede. Sometimes emails get caught in spam filters and missed. Actually, have you checked your own spam filter? Maybe do that first before you email them again.

I love BGD too but for a purchase like this i didnt think it was necessary to spend the extra money. ID really is value for money!

Actually, I would try calling instead of emailing them. For some reason I rarely get a response from them when I email and when I do, its sometimes weeks later.

Does BGD have 3-pointer jackets? I have the IDJ ones and I think they are a great value for the money but I'd be interested to see BGD's version

No doubt IDJ has value for money, but also some insecurity feeling somehow for me. I had this funny feeling about them while considering to get a pair of 0.25s for my ongoing three ring project. The communication did hang somehow so I went ahead with another vendor. Being outside of US, the communication comfort and trust in vendor are paramount for me, even if it costs more $$. i definately dont have anything in my spam box, so gonna follow up my email with IDJ, hope to get a quote..

Stargurl, your question about BGD and jackets.. Well, as I found Adwar jackets which are very similar or even may be the same to the ones that IDJ offers, I figured I could ask any vendor like BGD or Whiteflash to order them for me and to put their melee and do the finish. It will be certainly cheaper than going custom with them, but definately pricey than going IDJ route.

Edit. There are actually another pair of jackets at Adwar cataloge that I absolutely love, 8x6 pointers each in style of HW Sunflower collection. Very dressy. Very big. I dont know yet what I actually gonna get :naughty:

Hmm, well let me know what you find out. I would have possibly went with BGD if I would have thought these might be Adwar settings, well depending on the cost. I might have to go check out the Adwar site... :Up_to_something: :naughty:

After seeing MustangSally's gorgeous, delicate jackets here: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-new-wf-studs-and-semi-custom-jackets.182281/ , I'd like to get a similar pair for my .90 tcw studs. I'd like to get them from IDJ, if possible. Luann proposed their 1-pointers and I'm wondering if that will achieve the same look. Does anyone have the 1-pointer jackets, by chance and if so, would you kindly post some photos?

Thanks in advance!

Hi mamadelmar

I think you will find that many current PSer's have either the 2 or 3 point jackets from IDJ, but if you use the search engine to look for older threads you should be able to find some info and photos on the smaller jackets that quite a few PSer's purchased a few years ago.
My friend has either 1 or 1.5 point jackets from WF and they have a very similar look to what you are going for. Have you looked at the WF ones and have you asked Luann for photos of the 1 point jackets?

Hawaiiorangetree,

I have looked at the off-the-shelf WF jackets. The custom ones are beyond my budget, unfortunately. The photo Luann sent me of IDJ's 1-pointer jackets didn't look like MustangSally's because the prongs were quite pronounced. Luann said they wouldn't be as visible in the final piece, which is why I was hoping to see other PSers' photos. I've trawled through past posts but can't seem to find any photos of 1-pointer jackets without a scalloped edge....

Hmm.. Well I have the ID 3 point jackets and I can assure you that the prongs don't stick out on them at all. I'm guessing the 1 point jackets may be a little more pronounced since the stones are smaller but honestly don't think you will notice them as much as you do in the photos. Luann is right, magnified photos always make prongs look more bulkier than IRL.
What did you think of the WF off the shelf ones? They don't have the scalloped edge like mine do and from memory the price is pretty good.

Hawaiianorangetree, I may end up going with the WF ones, but IDJ has been good to me so I'd rather work with them first to see what they can come up with. Also, there's still a significant price difference between IDJ's once you factor in their PS discount and WhiteFlash's (even with their 10% PS discount).....

Yeah the price difference is always a major factor for me too. :)
Perhaps you could ask Luann if they have any in store that she could take a photo of to send to you? Sometimes the IRL photos are more accurate than the super enlarged, white background shots they send.

I am so happy to join the ID jewelry jacket club. I have a questtion as much as I love them they don't sit flushi in my ear. i spoke to them about this and they said they look good on myears. My husband feels the left ear is really drooping. My studs are currently set as martini do I have to change the setting please advise. Its alot of money to have droopy ear .

they looked great on at the store but now that I am just wearing them they droops
