I'm looking to reset my RB with Victor Canera in the next month or so, and, among other settings, I have also fallen for the Emilya.

However, since we can't see an example in person, we have some hesitations, mainly being that the round would get "lost" in the center stone. I believe a well-made halo will enhance the center, and not get lost, but there aren't a lot of halo settings IRL that I've seen. While I love the all the surrounding sparkle I don't want a halo to swallow the stone, to disappear and all anybody looks at is a sparkly blur.

Thoughts on this? Can anybody back me up... or prove me wrong??

I think most diamonds over .75ct look great in a halo personally. VC does an amazing job to make sure the center stone shines. Personally the only way you can go wrong with a halo is way the proportions are off and it looks more like a flower ring.

I would go with VC and get the Emilya. It is a wonderful setting, but I might have a preference as I have now owned 2 of them :naughty:

Thanks, Sarah! I am definitely going with VC, it's just a matter of Emilya or something else. I have a 1.54 E RB and smallish fingers (5.25).
BTW have you gotten your 5ct back? Or am I going to look at the SMTB forum and become extremely sheepish?

Does anyone else have a similar (or dissimilar) take on this? The more the merrier.

I don't think VC would do anything that would make your center look bad and tend to agree with Sarahbear. I think halos look fine on most stones as long as the melee is kept proportional though I tend to think that the bigger the center stone is, the more leeway you have on melee sizes that might look good.

Here's an old halo thread that might ease your mind:

Everyone seems to post on their own experiences. That is what you want.
Are you definite on VC or have you shopped other PS vendors? VC is on the price high-end of the spectum. Not a negative, perhaps you get what you pay for.
I ask this question because some people who pose questions are going to buy from Tiffany's no matter what advice they get on this board.

An extremely talented person such as VC (or SK or LM... etc) will have an "eye" for proportions. They will let you tell them what you are / aren't looking for, and will design a beautiful piece based your desires and their artful, experienced eyes.

VC is worth the money - you will "get what you pay for". He's one of the best in the biz - perfect pave and metalwork is a true art, and he and others referred to above have a proven track record. Don't doubt your selection - talk to him first, and maybe he has more pictures of things he's done that are similar to what you are wanting.

You really can't go wrong... you just need to let the artist do what artists do best. :)

Thanks, Willy. I am fairly set on VC; we have exchanged a number of emails and I am confident in his work. I have shopped around other vendors, I know his price as well as others; for a myriad of reasons, VC is the way I am choosing to go.

I pose a question not to speak directly to VC's work, but about a halo setting in general. Depending on the advice I receive on this board, I will either go with a halo by VC or a different setting by him.

The Emilya has been done many times on this board. I think you should look at the collection of halos thread and the VC thread. In the VC thread you see the emilya done with all sorts of different size centers. I think your 1.5 RB will look lovely in the that setting. Plus I hate to say it but a size 5.5 finger is not small!!! There are people on this board rocking all sorts of gorgeous rings on a size 2.5!!!

I personally wouldn't pose the question of whether or not a halo would swallow a RB diamond up. VC has proven many times over with the Emilya that he does it well and the proportion are magnificent. I think the real question is if you want this setting or another style.

It's a 5.25 in the summer, 5 in the winter. Yeah, I thought since 6 was the "average" I was smallish. Hence, the -ish.

However, I also thought 1.54 ct was a good size until I came on here :twirl: swoon candy.
