I would appreciate your opinions on this. Tell me what you think:

1.00 Carat
H color
SI2
Excellent Polish
Very Good Symetry
Crown Angle 31.7
Pavillion Angle 41.3
Table 57%
Depth 61%
Girdle Slightly Thick
Pavillion Depth 43.8
Crown Height 13.5%
Culet 0.2%

The cut advisor on here gave it a 2.1.

This rock cost me $3800 out the door. How did I do?

Thanks for all comments.

Hi Hockey. Although traditionally considered a little shallow, that 31.7' crown angle works great with the 41.3' pavilion angle. The stone should have great light return and non-leakage. I ran it thru the DiamCalc software and came up with the following Light Return Analysis, as well as the attached simulated IdealScope image.

Should be a beaut, if all the figures are correct. The AGA Cut Class ranking on it is a "2A", which is technically considered a "fine make". The price is also very good, provided the grading is correct. Was the stone EGL certed, and did you get a second opinion on the SI2 grade?

POSSIBLE numbers and IdealScope image:

Light Return (mono)…...: 1.03 Very Good
Light Return (stereo)…..: 1.02 Very Good
(Non) Leakage (mono)..: 1.06 Very Good+
(Non) Leakage (stereo).: 1.03 Very Good
Contrast......................: 0.90 Very Good to Good
(Non) FishEye Effect…...: 1.00 Very Good

-----------
IdealScope- In general, the darker pink areas indicate areas of greater light return, with the lighter pink areas indicating areas of lesser light return. The black areas indicate areas of greater contrast, with the gray areas indicating areas of lesser contrast. The white areas indicate areas of light leakage. A good explanation of the IdealScope image along with examples can be found at https://www.pricescope.com/idealscope_indx.asp

Disclaimer- The facet arrangement and symmetry of the image will probably vary from your actual diamond, which may affect the light performance indicated, sometimes dramatically. The computer generates an image with “perfect” symmetry, which is rare. Also, the star/lower girdle facet lengths will probably be different from your diamond. The computer simulation is reproduced best when the actual diamond is being viewed and the image "tweaked" to the appearance of the diamond, or Sarin info is downloaded directly into the program. However, this "blind" reproduction should be helpful in considering the major light performance aspects.

Hi Rich,

Thanks for the analysis.

No it was not an EGL cert, but a GIA cert. The jewler had a Megascope, so that is where I got all the angles.

I have not yet taken it in for an appraisal. I'm going to bring it into the GIA for inscripting, then I will get it appraised. The reason being is that I want photos of the inscription from the appraisal.

One thing I forgot to mention is that the cert indicates an extra facet, I believe on the crown. But I couldn't see anything without a loupe. Even when I was looking through the loupe, I didn't notice anything peculiar. But then again, I have only been looking at diamonds for about 3 weeks. Would this still make the $3800 a good price?

Thanks!

Great. Being a GIA cert, you know the SI2 is most likely a conservative grade.

The extra facet is nothing to worry about. It's a minor touch-up that is very difficult to pick out and has a neglible effect on price.

I'd say you're good to go.

Congratulations.
