Hi everyone. I am a confused guy looking at rings to propose to my GF in late July. She has no idea as we have never discussed anything. I will tell you up front, that she does not wear much jewelry. She is plain, not into "bling" and is very active.

I really love the Caleb Meyer rings as they are different and personal. I was looking for something simple, elegant, unique and sturdy for her. Not a typical solitaire setting. Something with a little character without being too showy. I am also on a budget.....soo...I was eyeing this ring and just wanted to get opinions or other suggestions:

Thanks everyone.

it says SOLD-- I hope you scooped it up because it is GORGEOUS!!!

Hi Stabone,

The ring you're looking at is sold. Did you put it on hold, or were you thinking of having one made like it?

What is your budget, for both diamond and setting?

I was thinking about contacting them and having one made just like it. My budget is under $4k and judging by the cost of the other rings on his site, I think it should fall in that price range.

It''s gorgeous, but it looks like a few areas of the ring (where the band separates and curls) could ''catch'' on clothing, etc. If she''s very active, this may be something to consider. It may also be hard to match a wedding band to, which is also something to consider. I think the idea of a bezel is a great one, though!

Well, I may have over stated her "activity" level...haha. She is a teacher, so she is moderately active at her job. I thought the bezel design would be best for her. I''m not so much worried about it "catching" although I will think more about that.

Does anyone have any experience having a design like this recreated by CM or anyone else for that matter? Do you think this type of ring will fall into that price range being it would have to be custom made?

It should, depending on the diamond you select. That particular ring was made in platinum and 18k yellow gold, but you'd probably save some money going with 18k white and yellow gold, if Caleb Mayer works in 18k white.

Since it'll be a custom job, I'd call the studio and get a quote on how much the setting would cost in both platinum/18k yellow and 18k white/yellow for a .50-.75 ct diamond center. Once you have the price of the setting (and decide which metals you want to go with), you'll have a better idea of how much you can spend on the diamond.

Okay. I am dong this alone, so thank you for your help. I was planning to stay between .5 and .75 ct anyway. I will give CM a call tomorrow and see what they can do!

You''re very welcome!

Another idea: Once you have a decent idea of how much his custom work costs, you could propose with just a diamond (or a diamond in a temporary setting). You could then show her Caleb''s website and the two of you could choose a design, or come up with a completely unique design together.

That''s a beautiful ring.

Check w/them first tho before proposing w/a diamond/temp setting-they don''t take outside stones, so make sure it will be ok! The settings there are beautiful-I can''t copy/paste but I''m sure it''s fantastic!

I love it! He makes wonderful rings.

They don''t? That''s a bummer.

Nice ring, and I like how low it sits. I am, though, worried about how a w-ring will sit next to it. Do make sure she''s okay with having a huge gap or that she''s okay with either switching it over to her right hand or not using a wedding band.

It looks beautiful! Hope you don''t mind if I make your link clickable.

Nope, unfortunately! I wanted 1130 for my ering, and they''d told me they only use their own stones. I ended up having something made. Maybe they''d work w/a vendor you requested tho?? I never thought to ask that.

Thanks for making the link clickable SparklyOEC! It''s a beautiful choice Stabone!

I thought briefly about resetting my heirloom stone in a CM setting and they were willing to do it and gave me a quote. However they may have changed their policy...that was a little over a year ago.

CBL-they did tell me that for special pieces like heirlooms, they would use the customers stone-I should have been more specific.

I think it will be lovely!!!

Wow! Thank you for all the replies. I plan on contacting CM today at lunch. I do not have a stone, so I have no problem getting one from them. Also, I am not so worried about how the wedding ring will fit next to the ring. My GF doesn''t even wear jewelry at this point and I''m sure the thought will not even cross her mind and it won''t be a major issue. We will cross that bridge when we arrive, but for now, I really love the looks of that ring. I love its simplicity, style and the raw look it has.
