Does anyone know if it''s typical for the cake baker to provide some kind of stand or plate for the cake, or do only some bakers do this? Would it be weird if I wanted to use a specific cake stand and asked the baker to put the cake on this?

Do people ever use pedestal cake stands like this, for instance, for wedding cakes?

Don''t I have better things to do with my time than worry about cake plates? Sure!

My reception venue lets you rent them. I would bet your florist or your baker will have something to rent. You can use whatever you want to hold the cake. It doesn't have to be a sliver pedastal.

My grandmother had a beautiful cake stand, so we used that. It was a large pedestal, and it looked lovely. For the groom''s cake, we used a stand provided by the baker. Your bakery or your venue should be able to provide a stand for you, but no one will think it''s weird if you want to bring in your own.

Just make sure it''s big enough to hold your cake! I don''t think the baker or venue should care if you want to bring in your own stand. If you don''t have one, ask your vendors. We didn''t have a stand and wanted the cake up off the table a bit (since the cake itself wasn''t very big), and our baker let us borrow one of hers. She was originally going to bring a white porcelain stand of hers, but it broke in her car and she ended up bringing this irreplaceable antique one in the photo. I didn''t know the story of the swap until I returned it to her the next day.

Most cake bakers will ask for a deposit or will use a disposable one, so make sure to ask. I''m sure you can use yours though as long as it''s big enough!

Neatfreak reminded me that our baker DID ask for a $50 deposit on the stand. She ripped up the check when I returned the stand to her.

i know many a bride that provided their own cake stand or stands. i''m sure the cake baker would work with you.

Just my 2 cents...nobody will notice the cake stand. They will be looking at the cake!
