CADs from BGD: Thoughts?

I just received my CAD images for the custom engagement ring I'm working on with BGD. I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts/concerns/suggestions because I don't have a lot of experience in creating jewelry. I attached the CAD images below and I'll post some of the inspiration pictures in the next post. There are label numbers on the inspiration pictures to make referencing them easier.

My thoughts: I was really excited to see the CAD images since it's been a few weeks since they started working on them but when I opened the email, I was a little underwhelmed. It seems like they basically added a diamond to ring 4 and left it at that. There were things I liked about this ring but it was definitely not the centerpiece of my explanation of what I was looking for. I was looking for something closer to rings 1, 5.1, and 5.2 that are vines on top of a normal ring. I'm worried that the leaves will get caught on things and finding a wedding band for this is going to be really difficult. Also, is it just me, or are there only 3 prongs? That really concerns me because I don't what the diamond to fall out and get lost since I've paid so much for it.

Don't get me wrong, the ring looks fantastic. It just isn't quite what I'm looking for yet. At least this is a process where changes can be made. I'll be sure to bring my concerns to Denise and Brian but I wanted to see if anyone has any other comments. I'm not an expert so I want to make sure I didn't miss anything.

Thanks!

I love the idea you have, but agree that BGD's rendition is throwaway. I'll just toss another hat in the ring. I've had four different pieces done by this goldsmith. She does all her own work, but is very talented and works hard to get your concept on your hand. This link shows several of her pieces she describes as Vine Rings. All these show halos, but she'll create a CAD especially for your idea. None of my four pieces was just like one on her site. All used just an inspiration and then was custom designed to my liking. She even used my stones. I'm posting a picture of a simple vine band she has listed, simple but beautiful. I'd be willing to bet she'd do an ering and band that match and fit perfectly! Good luck.

I can see 4 prongs in the first image (one looks like a little smaller prong that shoots off the leaf design). Did you say you wanted a more viney look but a straight band (not curved like inspiration #4)? To me, it also looks like they incorporated the leaf prong from 6.1 and a bit of the look from 6.2. Honestly, though, if that's not what you want, you should take those images off the board and just show them ring 1, 5.1 and 5.2 as the style you want. While the other rings have a nature/vine vibe, they are very different than the Flora Vida style(s) that I think you are wanting. Honestly, if you want the Flora Vida style, I would just show them those rings and say you want it as close to them as possible.

Call and talk to Brian himself. Although that ship has sailed for today. Try it on Sunday or Monday.

Also, if you want to switch vendors I agree with Upgradable, you can also try Greenlake. Those would be my vendor choices for that style.

None of the rings that you like have that winding shank. I get the general idea but don't think it's been quite achieved. The leaves look as though they could catch on a lot of things; that could be a real pain for everyday wear.

I think I'd have to go back to the drawing board for this one. I'm sure they will work with you to try to come up with something that you love!

Ditto all of this. Back to the drawing board!

Thanks everyone! While I was writing up my suggestions, I came up with an idea that I think I like a little better than my original one. I drew it out on one of the CAD images. I added a second vine which provides a surface for a 4th prong and makes the edges less irregular (which makes finding a wedding band easier). I also rotated the leaves inward so that the points don't stick out where they can get caught on things. I sent a copy of the picture to Brian so we'll see what he can do with it. I'll post new info/CADs when I get it.

Upgradable - Thanks for the link! I want to try to make this work with BGD first but I'll keep that in mind.

It is more than just the vines of Pic 4. If you like 1 and 5.1, and 5.2, that's what you should show and discuss with BGD. Those examples have more delicacy and flow. As it is, the current CAD does not show the little details that make it soft and flowy. I would also have the diamond set lower, which can be accomplished by having the leaves tilted downwards or sideways a little more. The leaves also seem to be sticking out of nowhere instead of "growing" out of the branch shank.

VERY interesting ring design!

Agreed ... need to go back to the drawing board. This design isn't flowy and not feminine at all. I think it will look like a hunk of metal unless it gets refined.
