I asked her to raise the head just a little bit so that you can see the culet better, but does that make the prong placement look funny? Revised CADs below.
Also, I do want the setting to look very delicate, especially because the stone isn't huge. Do the widths of everything look good on the CADs? Is there anything else I am missing? Please let me know what you think, thanks!!
Would you consider forgoing the four-fold symmetry of the head? Maybe start from the original dimensions, but carve away some metal from the profile view of the head. This would expose more of the pavilion in profile, without raising the diamond.
Whats going on where the shank attaches to the head? Are there little open areas or are they filled in with metal? I cant really tell...I would not want there
to be open areas there.
I think the tiffany prongs (at least in these CADs) have lost something when they went from 6 down to 4. The swags are too droopy. How high is this stone
set? It seems pretty low and I wonder if was set a little higher the swag part of the prongs would look a little more tiffany-like.
Ignore my previous comment, as I wasn't aware you were going for a Tiffany/Jovyn inspired design.
This may be another stupid comment, but you could solve the gap problem that @tyty333 mentioned by setting the prongs N-E-S-W, if that is an option that is palatable to you. That would allow the knife-edge shoulders to connect to the E & W prongs without creating an awkward gap.
@drk14@tyty333 -- thanks for the input and yes this is for my Mom's OEC (1.25 but faces up a bit small for the carat weight). I emailed Caysie, and it looks like I can't get that Tiffany profile with 4 prongs in the standard orientation.
So, I either need to go back to 6 prongs, or do the NSEW orientation. Any thoughts on those options?? I am going to try and look for pictures of similar sized stones in a 6 prong tiffany style setting
A 1.25 stone that faces up smaller (say like a 1 carat) is not small IMO and can handle 6 prongs...especially CVB prongs that are so tiny and
delicious! I would go for the Jovyn.
I'm not big of NSEW prongs but ask your Mom and see what she thinks about them. She may be perfectly fine with them.
Caysie had the same problem with me. I wanted cads from her where the stone wasn't so squat. Unfortunately we couldn't agree on how to adjust the proportions so I don't have good advise for you.
