Hello forum!

I am looking to make a purchase on this diamond for an engagement ring and I would like to get a second opinion before proceeding. I was not able to get the ASET imagery for the diamond, but I do have the Holloway Cut Adviser and GIA. I am purchasing the diamond at near whole sale price from a family friend.

Price: $5,700

Clarity Chars: Crystal, Cloud

Holloway Cut Adviser

Total Visual Performance: 0.8 - Excellent (within TIC range)

Depth %: 60.3

Thank you for your help and I look forward to see what you guys think!

Regards,
Prime

Is there a reason for such high clarity? You can get a full carat H SI1 eyeclean for that size and in terms of color and clarity you wouldn't be able to tell them apart.

It's a 60/60 style stone, will favor white light over dark. But it does discount the stone (60/60's are discounted).

Price is also not "wholesale" or even near it. That's a retail price on that stone.

See. This stone has the same stats: https://www.solomonbrothers.com/diamonddetail/8F4YF467/shop?affiliate=9318613A-AD0C-4530-A456-0409DFEFB8DE&utm_source=PriceScope

And it's cheaper.

It has fluorescence, which would discount it. BUT your stone is a 60/60 style which discounts IT. So those cancel each other out.

Your "friend" is not giving you anything you can't get at a 100 other stores. Except the ride he's taking you on.

Sorry. Most "friend" stories we get on here are lies. Just like this one is.

You can do better.

Your lady will appreciate a full carat stone. And you can easily afford one.

Thank you so much for the reply. I will opt for the second stone I was looking at that fits the description of what you recommended

Have you seen it? Is it eye clean? Feathers and twinning wisps are usually ok inclusions for SI, but you'd have to see for yourself

I have not seen the stone, but it is a decent drive away from me. Do you think it would be necessary to see the stone before making the purchase?

Pavillion angle is too low. 33.5 in a 60/60 is as low as you want to go. 34 in a Tolk style. This is a 60/60.

And I agree about the wisps.

Not really impressed with the stones they are finding for you.

Tell him to stick to following stats:

Table: Less than 60.
Depth: 60-62.3
Crown Angle: 33.5-36.0
Pavillion Angle: 40.6-40.8

Okay? And they still have to pass the HCA and be less than 2.

Wish I had more time to decide and look at diamonds per your recommended specs. Thank you for that by the way. It's basically come down to either of those stones if I want to keep my proposal date as we visit her family out of the country. Between the two, would you not be comfortable buying either? I am comfortable with good and I don't need the best, but I want to be sure what I'm buying is acceptable.

Of the two, I would take the first one from the numbers. But the other one is .3 mm bigger and that's a large difference.

It's a toss up. I recommend you ask him to see them side by side and pick the one your eyes like best.

If you can't do that, then you have to chose what she will prefer: a larger stone with very good performance, or a slightly smaller one with better performance.

Thank you for your guidance Gypsy. Side by side, I decided to go with the larger one because there was no noticeable difference besides the size. I was able to see the inclusions only under a microscope, in which they ran with the cut, except the one in the middle - which I couldn't see without the microscope. In fact, I would bargain to say that I could see more glimmer in the larger one. All on all, I'm comfortable with the purchase.
Thank you both again for your help.

It's always best, after your initial screening to make sure the stones are worth your time, to pick them in person.

Congratulations!
