DH and I are working toward upgrading my wedding set. I have found a setting that I love, and I''m wondering if I can go ahead and get the setting relatively soon (maybe for Christmas) and put the stone in it later? The setting is a prong-set eternity band (round brilliants) with a four-prong head to hold the main stone. (It''s like one of the diamonds of the eternity band is just "missing" and the four-prong head for the main stone is in its place, if that makes sense.) I''m planning to put something around 1.5 to 2.0 carats, either a radiant or a cushion in that "hole" and I just CAN''T DECIDE!!! I''m just proud of myself for being able to decide on a setting! LOL!

I''m wondering how easy it would be for a jeweler to adjust the head to fit whatever stone I pick? Also, I''ve been considering using double-prongs instead of the regular prongs it has now. Would that be a possibility?

Just so you know, the e-ring setting is only part of the picture . . . we would also be getting a matching eternity band for me to wear as my new wedding band. I would probably start wearing that as soon as it gets here, regardless of how long it takes us to finish the e-ring! LOL!

Sorry for all the questions . . . I know exactly nothing about jewelry making/repair, and you guys have been so helpful in the past! Thanks!

Is it a peg head? That is pretty easy to replace for a larger stone. Do you have a picture of the setting?

I would recommend getting the stone first. You never know what size you''ll end up with, especially since you are looking at different shapes.

If the ring is intended for a peg-set head, it would likely accommodate any stone you'd choose as long as the center stone sits up enough to clear the melee diamonds in the e-band.

Here's a thread with a picture of Mara's peg-set head......Mara's ring with peg-head

Go to the first picture (profile view) of it on her finger - you'll see how it's arranged.

Thanks for the quick responses, everyone!

The set I''m looking at is at a local jeweler, but I did find one online that looks exactly the same: http://pompeii3.com/site/index.php?p=erbridal&pp=detail&id=1011

The set in the link above is in 14k white gold, but mine would be in yellow gold . . . either 14k or 18k, but that''s a whole nother issue! LOL!

Allison, thanks for the link to Mara''s ring. I''ve seen hers before (on the eternity wedding set thread that I''ve been obsessing over lately), and it''s beautiful!

I can''t tell for sure if the head in the set I''m looking at is a "peg head" or not, but it seems like it''s very similar to Mara''s?

Also, can anyone tell me whether or not I can have my double prongs with this setting (instead of just plain prongs). That isn''t a deal breaker, but it would be nice!

Bump

I would wait and get the stone first; you might like something else when the time rolls around, but that is just me. hehe

Thanks, Skippy!
