hi,

When you do business w Jewelers out of state is there any kind of money back guarantee you get if for any reason you are not satisfied w the final product? It feels to me like taking a bit of a risk to not be able to go into the jeweler and try things on and be very hands on. The place I'm talking to said they don't do that but if something is wrong they will fix it.

Thanks!

I'm not sure being out of state has anything to do with it. I would find out what the jeweler's return policy states -- and I'd get it in writing. Each vendor/jeweler has different return/exchange policies. If your jeweler said they don't accept returns, then you have your answer.

As a FYI: a custom ring (or any other piece of jewelry) -- if that's what you're considering -- is almost never returnable for a full refund, even if you were to commission the piece from a jeweler in your hometown.

The odds that another customer will soon appear, waiting exactly the same setting you had specially produced & has the same ring size as you, are slim to none. So perhaps this will help you understand why the jeweler isn't going to "eat" the cost of a return should you not like the ring "for any reason." Some jewelers will refund the center stone's purchase price (perhaps minus a "restocking" fee) within X number of days, provided the stone hasn't been damaged & you kept the lab report for the stone.

It is a good idea to try on lots of different styles of rings in various proportions, metals, etc, if you can! I'm not the only person who thought she wanted one particular style... until I tried it, and some variations, on & didn't like how it looked on my hand.
