Hello everyone! I have found the setting that im going to buy. Its going to come from James Allen. I am thinking about purchasing the diamond from Whiteflash. What should I do about getting the stone set? Should I send the stone/ring to one or the other or should I get them seperate and have a local set it? Please advise thanks!

The best thing is to communicate this to both WF and JA. If your stone is insured, then have WF send the stone to JA for them to set. Otherwise, you can have JA send the setting to WF and have WF set it. Since it is WF's stone, then WF will take responsibility for the diamond during the setting process. I would avoid getting a 3rd party involved, just to keep things easier to manage.

That is what I was thinking. And that is not getting a 3rd party involved. I think I should see if JA could send the setting to WF if I choose to go with one of their diamonds.

I would really strongly recommend buying a setting from WF if at all possible. If you do buy the setting from JA, I would absolutely have the setting sent to WhiteFlash to set the stone. You want WF covering the stone while being set. You''ll probably have to pay a setting fee to do this, but I would definitely not send the stone to James Allen.

DS gave you good advice. You will pay a small setting fee for WF to set the stone in a JA setting but I think it would be worth it for the peace of mind. The setting fee would probably be no more than paying the shipping costs to send the stone to JA and then to have the ring sent to you.

I would like to buy the setting and stone from the same place. The problem is whiteflash doesnt have the setting that she wants. This is the setting from James Allen that she likes/wants.

The above setting is similar to the Vatche Royal Empress with pave, which is the one she really likes, except the Vatche is only 2.5 mm wide and she wants 3+

Tugboat,

I was in a similar situation as you. I bought a diamond from Blue Nile and the setting from James Allen. I did send the diamond to James Allen and they set it for $100. James Allen informed me that they were liable for any damage done to the diamond during the setting process and their insurance would cover any damages. I was very pleased working with them!

Tug, have you not been able to find what you''re looking for at JA? They have a very large selection....

And Indy, thanks for the info!

Hmm, I''m not sure what you''ve been looking at there, but they indeed carry many AGS stones. Here''s the link to the H&A Signature Series Collection.

Having said that, there are many GIA stones out there worthy of putting on someones finger. I have one on mine.

I should have made it clear that I was looking for a princess cut. As of right now they do not have any ags in stock. There are a few that I have been looking into. I am going to narrow my search down and post a few diamonds and get everyones opinion. Thanks for the help!

Funny, that is EXACTLY what I was planning to do with my diamond. Did their setting the stone for $100 include an appraisal?
