Hi Farmer Gal in another thread responded to me with a few suggestions, which I like:

Setting:

Regarding the diamonds I am just wondering howcome there isn't a pic of the hearts and just the arrows? Is this significant? The cut seems optimal to me from what I know and since it's a signature cut I assume it's optimal (+ the suggestion from farmer gal).

Also regarding the setting, anyone know why that setting is only $650 and the rest are $1000+? Seems strange considering all in platinum for a single solitaire.

Some of these questions might be better to ask directly but I would appreciate input from you lot as well since you aren't bias.

Additionally, anyone bought from these to the UK and know what sort of charges you incurred?
So far I've got this for the charges: 20% VAT, 2.5% etc tax for being set in jewellery, £9.50 halifax bank charge for international payment + a mediocre exchange rate, + $75 shipping.

I am guessing most people wont be able to answer all my questions since a lot of you don't live in the UK but if you can answer even just 1 it would be greatly appreciated ^^.

With any luck after discussing with my bank any charges I don't know about I'll place an order for a diamond ring next week.

Can't answer diamond questions, sorry.

With regard to importing jewellery from abroad (never a diamond on its own though), I normally budget for 25% on top of the price of the goods, which should cover p&p, insurance, courier handling charges, import duties and bank charges etc...

Still worth the effort though, as I have already commented in other threads, as jewellery are so expensive in the UK!

I have never returned any jewellery that I have imported, as it was too much hassle than it was worth.

I just sold them via eBay and managed to get my money back plus a little profit on top.

Good luck with your purchase.

DK :))

The hearts pics are only available on signature lines. If you are looking at a signature line stone and it is not posted, email, call, or chat and ask why. They are the best people to tell you that.

As for the setting prices. http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/files/setting_images/thumb/large/5351P-12.jpg I'm pretty sure is a Stuller setting. It's an economy setting with what looks to be a peg head. They are great quality settings though. So don't think they aren't. But they are not an in house setting or a 'premium' designer setting.

Thanks for the replies :). Ok seems they don't do hearts pic for the Brian Gavin blue but it seems it's still optimal, the arrows look great and it is AGS 0 so I guess it can't get much better than that for cut quality (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).

To DK - you mention selling bits on eBay, was that because you just didn't like them/want them and not due to being anything as such wrong with the item?

I think I am going to go ahead with 1 of these diamonds provided they don't sell in the mean time. The setting seems ok to me and thanks for the input on that Gypsy.

Blue Line stones aren't guaranteed Hearts and Arrows. That's what I suspected. Yes, they are still lovely stones.

You can see the remarks in this thread: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/likelihood-of-finding-a-signature-super-ideal-diamond.174235/ :wavey:

Great reply/link thank you. I think that's the perfect compromise for me, not obsessed with super ideal but want it close and the blue fluorescence is a huge plus for me :).

Diamond price + shipping charge
Times the above by 0.225 for 20% VAT + 2.5% Import Tax on set jewellery
Times this new figure by 2.5% (?? I can't remember now :? ) for the fedex charge for dealing with applying and collecting the above taxes.

I think that's right...
