I am looking for engagement ring in the NYC area. I heard the Hearts On Fire and the Leo Diamond is one of the best you can get. Is that true? I am looking to spend 30000 to 4000 dollars on a diamond. I am not sure exactly where is the best place to buy a diamond in the nyc area. I am looking for reputable companies that sell Super-Ideal cut diamond? Thanks in advance!

Stephen

I would contact whiteflash.com. briangaviddiamonds.com, or goodoldgold.com (you can also go see them on Long Island). They all sell super ideal cut diamonds and the ebst prices you''ll find.

Try GoodOldGold then, they are based in Long Island, a short trip from NYC.

I am going to check them out. Thanks for your help! Any other suggestions?

Stephen

Thanks again for your help! I will keep you updated on how it goes.

I too have been looking for a an engagement and ended up working with Yekutiel Davidov at ID Jewelry Online idjewelryonline.com. He is in NY on W 47th Street and you''ll find him easily listed here on the vendors links.

Talking to Pricescope''s listed vendors can all be a good experience; I''ve shopping since October and worked with a couple of them.

The reason I''d go out to recommend Yekutiel is that he was pretty sincere in finding me what I wanted and quite patient. Last week he was quite happy to ask me which stone I would like best between two (one of which was another vendor''s) and it hit me that he meant it even when he knew I could be buying it from someone else.

google "secureideals.com", go to the site, call and ask for Megan.
They are on 48th Street, have to make appt.
Bought our ER from them, they have H & A''s
Best of luck.

I goggled secureideals.com and nothing came up. When you get a chance can you send me the web address or address. Thanks again for your help.

Ditto. I got my stone from them and it''s perfect! (IMHO)

And have read good things here about Yekutiel at ID too.

As to your original question, Hearts on Fire is a very good branded H&A cut. But you pay for that brand. You can find other branded H&As that will perform as well or better for less money. You can also find non-H&A diamonds that will look just as good. Leo diamonds are not great. Do a search using the search function above to find threads about them.

Any updates?

Depends on your GF. Some women want the ultimate surprise. Some want complete control over what they get.

And some want something in between

If she is not very adamant about a complete surprise, it can be good to at least talk to her about the shape she wants or any other preference she might have that you dont'' know about.

I think it''s a good idea to look around with your girlfriend but not go to the actual store you''re planning on purchasing from so that there''s some element of surprise. Maybe next time you''re near a Cartier or Tiffany you can stop in to gauge her preference in shapes and styles (and get her ring size).

Thanks for your advice! I heard about this place called Jewelry Design in CT. Anyone familiar with this place?

Thanks!

Hi again,

What do you think about getting a ring from Costco? I heard they have good engagement rings and prices. Is that true?

I would not buy from them. I suppose if you do all your own homework and can pick the diamond based only on the cert then it would be ok for some people. But I think if you opt for that then Blue Nile is just as good. I don't know if Cotco gives you any information about cut quality or not.
