Hello everyone.

getting engaged soon so have been looking at diamonds. My gf likes antique style rings so i desided to go with an asscher style center stone to give it more of an older look.

here is a stone that i am leaning towards and just wanted to get some opions. I have seen the stone in person and it looked very nice to my untrained eye. lots of sparkle and flashes of color in the store.

here is the specs.
5.43 x 5.43 x 3.93
1.02 ct
73.3% depth
67% table
culet none
girdle is thick to slightly thick
polish is good
symmetry is good
clarity is VS2
color is H
fluorescence none
GIA report

price is $4300

from looking around the web and at some local jewelars this looks to be ok, but i wanted to get some other opinions as this is the first time i have ever looked at diamonds of any type.

thanks in advance

what do i ask the jeweler for to have him create these pattern images?

You should be able to see the patterns on the stone. Every place I have looked at asschers has shown me it under a microscope so I could see the patterns and clarity even more clearly. The numbers don''t matter as much, what is really important is how it looks. However, with that depth the stone will look smaller than other 1 carat asschers, although I don''t know if it would be enough to tell the difference. I am obsessing about mm size lately though, so that is why I pointed it out. Do you think you could get any pictures?

I agree it''s a tad on the deep side but could be beautiful. Please post some pics if you can. Then we can see the patterns, that''s the most important part. To me anyways.

here is a picture of the diamond.

fairly typical big table asscher with so-so patterns.
Not the best but not the worst of the worst either.

Very pretty congrats!

Perhaps if something would be awfully wrong it would show either in the few stats on the lab report or on a picture like that. There's nothing of the sort that I could tell.

Perhaps this one could have been closer to 6mm, but how much difference would that make anyway? And the larger ones come at a premium anyway - better 'spread' is not a free bonus apparently (what is?).

As far as I can tell, Strm's patterns only show in nature on fairly large diamonds, and in pictures only in a very controlled environment (diffuse light, 15-20 degrees shading and absolutely perfect alignment - much like in the pictures meant to show the arrow pattern on RBC). This picture was not meant to cash on optical symmetry like the H&A label does, and all I can see in it is a charmer of a diamond.

Nice setting too! Who is making it?

thanks for the replys.

Knox Jewelers is making the ring. they have been very helpful so far and putting up with my dayly calls because it has taken a little longer then they planed to get the parts back for casting.

here is the picture of the crown also.

I am certainly no expert on stones, but I own and love an asscher! And I love a good halo! I have an asscher ering with a halo and I have the asscher set above the halo, like the asscher in your design is set, and I love it that way. I think it makes the stone pop more than it would if the stone were bezel set!

I think the stone looks good...the good on the polish and symmetry might be worrysome...

Regardless, that setting is just lovely. I absolutely love it!

I''m no expert on asscher specs, but the stone and the ring are going to look fabulous. Nice to see another split-shank and halo together (as you can see from my avatar, I''m a bit biased though). Keep us posted, and definitely don''t forget hand pics
