Hey guys,

Anyone know where I could buy a nice ring box? Nothing expensive, just an upgrade from the free one I get from Leon.

Thanks,
Jeff

There are some here: Ring boxes. Mine came in one like the rosewood option, and I thought it was nice.

So... any chance of pictures of your new beauty?

If I recall correctly, Surfgirl collects antique ring presentation boxes -- and on her thread has picture of her ring in a GORGEOUS one! I wonder if an antique store could help! (Especially since the stone is a CUSHION).

I remember a few threads about custom made wood ones?? Monogrammed sterling silver ones?

But after I saw that antique one -- all others pale!

Here's a HILARIOUS one ... I'm guessing you're not going for "hilarious" though!

How about a store, as I am a little time pressured to order online?

And yes, there is a chance of pictures later this week...

The ring has demanded a private dressing room, an Ultrasonic, 3 assistants, and 15% royalties before any pictures are taken

Jeff...has he sent you the ring yet? If not, maybe you can ask him if he happens to have an expecially nice one. (from my experience, his ''regular'' ones aren''t so great at all.)

Gosh...I wish I were near you...I have SO MANY I''d be glad to give you one.

All I can think of is to go to a local jeweler and ask if you can buy one. If he''s a friend he might even give you one...

I have heard of ring boxes whose interiors light up when the box is opened, which I''ve always thought would be so cool if you''re planning to propose in a dark, romantic place...

Sorry I''m not much help..

I''m always up for hilarious... but should probably stifle the urge for this particular occassion, to avoid being **thwapped**.

Hey Widget!

Too late to ask Leon, as in typical fashion I thought of this a little too late. And thanks for your generous offer!

I am actually in the Bay Area this week, if that gives anyone any other ideas!

You aren''t planning to be in the North Bay Area are you??

I''d be willing to meet you with a bagful to choose from, in exchange for a "real life preview" of that spectacular ring...

I''ve seen some nice ring boxes at some of the better jewelers in town. Also, Sam''s warehouse has some that look like a knock off of a faberege egg, but don''t know if you could buy them without the ring.

Hey Widget, unfortunately no plans to be that far up north. I''m jealous that you get to call the North Bay home!

deco is right, I do collect antique ring and jewelry presentation boxes and they are very difficult to find so if Jeff found one on ebay, for example, he''d have to wait out the bidding period, plus shipping.

My advice would be, since you''re in SF area, call around to some antique & estate jewelry shops and see if anyone either has a nice vintage presentation ring box or if they know of any place that has replicas. In fact, I''m sure SF has their own jewelry/diamond district area or at least a building for gems and jewelry...You could always go there and just walk in and out of shops until you find one that will sell you a box suitable for your ring...

If you want something unique, maybe try the MFA store or the Isabella Stewart Gardner store. There''s also all the estate jewelry places down by the Park Street station.

The last pretty little box I bought was from Ten Thousand Villages, it was a little soap stone box that the ring-holding bit of the store-provided box slipped right into.

If you're going to be in the So Bay...call "Darren McClung Precious Jewels" (650) 432-5994.

They are a beautiful upscale estate/antique jewelry shop in Palo Alto....I'd call first though to see if they sell their boxes...

ETA: Oh heck...that ring is so gorgeous, you could present it to her in a zip-lock bag and she'd be blown away!! LOL

Seriously Jeff, just tie a string to that ring and wind the string all around the apt so she has to unwind it to get to the ring. At that point it wont matter if its wrapped in a piece of American Cheese, it''ll still look amazing!

Darren McClung does not sell their ring boxes and did not know of anyone who did in the area...

Thanks for the suggestion, though. Maybe i''ll get one of those colored zip-lock bags...

Mods, I don''t know if posting a website is okay so remove if this isn''t okay.

Boston Jeff,

I am guessing you are from Boston? there are a few nice stores on Newbury Street, here is one in particulr that I have been in a couple of times. Check it out.

Fay Cullen has some really nice ones...

Honestly Jeff, I don''t know if you NEED a box! Is there a reason you need to present it in a box? Otherwise I would simply hold it in your hand and propose. I don''t think she would notice even if you had the nicest box around...she''ll be blinded by that incredible stone!!!

Thanks for your help everyone. I was able to track down a basic black lacquer box with a grey suede interior for $8 from a local jeweler who was great to work with (they are ordering it special overnight, even though I have never been a customer there).

The purpose of the box is mostly to keep the ring safe and clean while travelling with me to the proposal site, not because I felt the proposal would be lacking without it (although I am kind of traditional). I would still like to get a special box (wood carved or antique) as a permanent home, but that will have to wait.

I''d try ebay on a small purchase like this.

I like the chicken one!

Give Wink a call and have him overnight one too you.
He has some real nice ones in the $20-$50 range in stock.

I am so looking forward to seeing your ring. Too bad Leon doesn''t supply nicer boxes to go with his stunning rings.

glad you found a box for that beauty....and a good jeweler for furture reference!

i am still lol at your diva ring''s demands!

gosh i can''t wait to see the pics!

a permanent home ring box or small jewelry box could make a nice future gift too. do you have any other ''occasions'' coming up?

deco - that second one, I have one almost just like it (now I''m gonna have to go dig it out of wherever it is lol) that came with my mom''s stuff that I know is at least 50 years old and who knows where it came from or what it came with.... I just know that she kept her little high school trinkets in it, I think she pulled the inner ring thing out so its just the box.... interesting...

I second this. Out of all the boxes I''ve received from B&Ms and online dealers, he has the best box. It is a highly polished, glossy cherry wood box, with the softest creamy white inside.

ROFL! As long as the ring doesn''t demand an upgrade you''re safe!
