Buying a diamond online - windowing?

Hi, I would really love your advise and feedback. I am currently based in Ireland and planning on buying a ring from the UK and due to this I cant see it in person. I love the ring but I have noticed a darker shadow when the ring is being viewed from a certain angle. What are your thoughts on this? Is it windowing?

I have two videos that I had been trying to upload but I can only seem to be able to upload pictures, is there any way around this?

It looks like light leakage in the center but a video would help. I think you can upload to Vimeo and post the link

Thank you, I have uploaded the videos here and Video 1 and Video 2

Hard to tell from the videos but from the close up one, it doesn’t look well cut. I didn’t see any signs of arrows. Does it come with a report?

I am sorry to say but I agree. It looks like a poorly cut stone that wont give the fire/scintilation you normally expect from a diamond.

Thank you for your help! I’m so glad I asked you as I wasn’t sure at all. There is a repot but it’s a European Diamond report that they have but for some unknown reason it doesn’t state the cut. Maybe it’s because it’s set in a ring.
I have asked them for a few big res close ups of the ring which I hope you don’t mind me sharing with you as I agree the videos aren’t the best quality. B5A7064F-96EB-4AF6-8AA4-B740759F8682.jpeg

That would be an in house grading report so you really don’t know what you’re purchasing. The cut and clarity could be off by several grades. May I ask how much they are charging for it?

You could reach out to some jewellers in Ireland? I had mine couriered to me and I was delighted!

That isnt a reputable grading report, so honestly you have no idea what you're getting in terms of color and clarity, AND its cut poorly. I would definitely pass on this. We can help you find something much better!

Thank you so much for all your help on this ring and even though I am no longer considering it the jewellers have sent me the close up images of the diamond. I would love to learn more about how should the arrows look when you are looking at it not zoomed in?
Thank you for all your help ☺️

To get an idea of what ideally cut diamonds look like, I would look at whiteflash (their a cut above line) or high performance diamonds. They are the best of the best. The arrows should be sharp and clear in an ideal cut modern round brilliant, whereas this stone doesnt have any arrows to speak of.

This could even be an early round brilliant. Or just badly cut and spankin new. Who knows.

I have a 2 carat stone cut very similarly to this. I was so catastrophically disappointed with it, that before I got married I replaced my engagement ring and diamond entirely. I saw it in optimal lighting in a store, and had no clue that the cut was as poor was it was. It also had an in-house grading report ... In most lighting, it looks even dingy.

I would not be seduced by those ridiculous photos. They look manipulated.

I hate to be so harsh, but run, not walk, away from this stone. I wouldn't wish my experience on anyone! It was expensive and emotional! Confessing to your fiance that you hate your ring is not fun. I kept my old diamond for sentimental reasons, but I will absolutely get it recut and will likely lose 25% or more of its weight.

Thank you so much everyone, really appreciate your help! I will be running away from it! :)

Here is non-zoom of GIA 3ex diamond, not a super ideal stone but still a good one, 2ct G color.

Thank you so much for sharing, its much clearer to me now! The lines should be very well defined even if its not zoomed in. Its a beautiful ring!

Glad I can help, yes, you should expect at least something like that stone so without store lighting it still can sparkle. I think a GIA or AGS is a must when buying a diamond, so you know you’re getting what you paid for. Not just what the store said what they’re selling (store certificate). And to compare prices, to know the fair price for some specs, you can use PS virtual diamond search tool or rare carat.
