Hello All. I received such helpful feedback on an earlier post about a Royal Asscher. I purchased the ring, but am now having some concerns about it. I still think the ring and stone are absolutely beautiful. However, I''m not sure that the ring is right for me (my finger)
8.gif
I was looking at the picture of the ring on my hand and think that it is disproportionately small for my finger. I used to wear a size 6 (pre-kids and associated weight gain) but am now a 7 1/2. I have searched pricescope and online for information about carat size relative to ring size (I am interested in a solitaire-type band) and haven''t found too much. Does anyone know what type of spread would look appropriate on a larger ring size? Should I give up the idea of RA/Generic Asschers in favor of another cut that might give more coverage? Are there settings that would be more appropriate? By the way, the RA I purchased is 2.11 carats and 7.31 x 7.32. I am not interested in having a stone that screams "look at me" but rather something that looks balanced and appropriate on my hand.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Here is the earlier thread (pictures are toward the bottom of the first page)

I personally, think it looks GORGEOUS! But yes, Asschers face up smaller, so if you want big spread, an Asscher isn''t it.

BUT that being said, if I were you, I would never give up that baby. I happen to think it looks fantastic on your hand.

I think that''s a good sized rock for your finger. Does the store where you got the asscher have any other sizes for you to try on (to see the finger coverage)?

I wouldn''t worry about finger coverage - you have a wonderful stone.

They didn''t have any other Asschers (Royal or Generic). In fact, I could barely find any Asschers in town.

Do you wear (or plan to wear) a wedding band fg? If you do please show us some pictures or we can play with different bands for your hand if you post the "whole hand" picture.
A right band can make a big difference in finger coverage and overall impression.

I actually think that's a good amount of finger coverage. Perhaps an Asscher eternity band or 5-stone wedding ring can add to the coverage though? Or maybe think about converting the solitaire to a 3-stone (although finding compatible Royal Asscher sidestones may be tough!)

I think it looks great on your hand.

As far as diamond sizes, here''s a chart

I''m not sure whether or not I will wear a band with it. I used to wear a band on my left hand and my engagement ring on my right. Currently, my wedding band doesn''t fit (can''t squeeze my size 7 1/2 into a size 6). Resizing it is complicated because of the design. Ideally, I was looking for a ring that could be worn solo.

I don''t have the ring in my possession yet, so will have to wait to take a ''whole hand'' picture.

Don''t. Panic.

You don''t even have it yet ... you''re looking at PICTURES of it on your hand ... not IT on your hand.

Everyone gets some kind of buyers remorse -- even if they end up LOVING the purchase eventually. Yours is just showing up this way.

What people "think" of as the size of two carats is often what 2 ct ROUNDS look like. It may just take a bit of adjustment to get used to that size in an Asscher. There are trade offs ... a larger looking round won''t give you the unique Asscher hypnotic well ... but it will be flashy & more noticable. TRADE-OFFS.

Wait until you actually have it on your hand for a couple of weeks before doing anything rash ... (is there a 30 day return policy?)

FWIW -- I can''t really relate because I have a size 10 1/2 finger with a 1.5 carat asscher ... and looks plenty big to me -- because it''s what we can afford. I wouldn''t compromise the CUT I wanted for more size (in an Oval or Pear or RB). Like I said -- it''s all trade offs ... but you can''t even be sure what you''re GETTING, much less what you''re MISSING until you can see it for yourself IN PERSON.

I''m with Deco on this one - just wait until you get it and can see it on you in person.

I had seen pics of approximately the same size Asscher as mine (and although much, much smaller than yours) I started to question my love for Asschers when comparing finger coverage of similar weight rounds.

Once I received it, I felt I had overreacted because in person, it looks "just right" on my hand, and although shrinkage is setting in, I can still objectively look at it and see that it''s a good sized Asscher on my hand.

Plus, you just bought one of the most gorgeous Asschers I have seen around here in a while.

I agree with deco. it also might help to go back and read your own thread when you described your asscher and the ring and just how it made you feel. almost everyone second guesses themselves on purchases like these. There are always gorgeous stones or settings or trends that are so appealing but for me, I have to come back to the things that really make my heart flutter and the way you described your ring in your other thread made me think that is what that stone and that ring did for you. If you''ve got a return policy, I''d wait until you get it and try to where it for a week or two and then see how you feel.

Ring size relative to finger size is determined by preference. Some like a huge rock on a tiny finger, others prefer a more modest stone on a larger finger.

I think the size of your stone is great, but if you think it''s too small that is what counts. This is often a complaint of asscher wearers because asschers face up much smaller than round cut diamonds. If you want more finger bang go for a round.

I agree with others not to be too hasty in getting rid of this beauty.

Something else to consider, if budget allows, is to do something like the attatched pic. It would help with coverage. I LOVE this ring.

And really, I wish you could see what I wore for almost 25 years, it''d make yours look like about 5 cts.

I know!!

I agree with everyone else...you need to test-drive that baby for a few days to see how it feels! I also know no one who has made a purchase this size and NOT had moments of doubt.

There is no question that others'' two carat round brilliants, pears, etc will look bigger than yours, but I personally wouldn''t trade that beauty for either. Then of course, I''m not you...

When I inherited my mom''s asscher it was mounted much like yours...with baguettes. I wanted it to look less "engagement-y" so remounted it with smaller asschers. This increased the bling factor dramatically.

I think a three-stone mounting can still be classic and "solitaire-ish", as long as the side stones are noticeably smaller than the center. Bigger baguettes, asschers, trapezoidss could do the trick...

....I've tried to put together a before/after pic of my mom's asscher that is sort of equidistant...I guess you can still get an idea of what I'm talking about...

LOL...the more I look at thesr pictures, the more I like the original mounting!! Yikes!

FG...don't worry...get your ring, wear it a while, and you'll know what you'll want to do.

Ditto!

frozengirl, I think your ring is gorgeous and looks great on your hand! I agree that you should wait until you actually have it on your finger for couple of weeks before you make a decision.

Thrittos!!

Take that puppy for a test drive first and see how it feels/looks to you live and in person.

It''s a beautiful ring and it looked lovely on your hand in the pic.

An RA is to die for!!

And you got 2+ carats of RA there!!

Yea:P I think the fact that you are regretting your decision before it gets in and without a real solid alternative means that it is buyers remorse. Just relax, get that baby in, and then you will know how you feel

and what the reality is.

But if you are really worried

consider that your finger is only about 56mm around, that means that your finger is about 17.8 mm in diameter.

So your stone itself is going to leave about 5.2mm to the left and right of your finger (if you have ever seen 5mm that is pretty small.) and then consider how the setting prongs or whatever you are having done will take up maybe 1.5-2mm, leaving only 4mm on either side, the stone will then be lifted up above the finger so that it appears to take up even more space. Its going to look GREAT just enough of your finger on the sides so that it looks like a ring (rather than some sort of cast:), but not nearly enough that it would look small! for sure!

Your ring is absolutely beautiful, and I bet when you receive it and have it on your finger, all your doubts will vanish. Good luck!

Thank you to all who replied and offered their support. I probably need to take a deep breath (perhaps a few) and spend some time with the ring once I receive it (Saturday). I will try...

One question for the group. Are there any guidelines on spread relative to ring size?

Frozengirl, I think it''s more likely to be a bad case of buyer''s remorse, cos.... YOUR RING IS GORGEOUS! IMO, the finger coverage is very good, in fact, I personally will never dream of getting so much finger coverage! Spend some time with it and I believe that it''ll grow on you so much that you will hate even to take it off for a while at the appraiser.
