With all of the interest in ring sizes along with the e-ring center stone weight on SMTR, I was curious as to the ratio of the two among PS members.

For example:

0.55 ct/ size 5.0 = .11
1.25 ct/ size 6.0 = .21
2.05 ct/ size 5.0 = .41
3.05 ct/ size 3.0 = 1.02 (any size 3s around here?)
5.10 ct/ size 6.5 = .78 (Didiamond's new fabulous ring)

The nationwide average I have heard is .33 ct / size 6 (stock size for most women's rings) = .05

luckyhonu is a size 2 I believe...and I think her stone is something like 1.5c.

.40
3.01 stone to 7.5 finger

.72

3.22ct princess to 4.5 ring size.

So when are these polls going to start taking shape into consideration? It's interesting because my stone would be similar in size to a round that is around 2.25 cts, bringing my ratio down a whole lot (all the way to about .5)!

Researcher, you just gave me an idea. We can start a new poll asking what shape we have but we will probably find that 99% of PS members have a RB and that you and I are in the minority.

How about 3.16ct/2.5? The ratio is 1.26.

PreCiouSJeWeL920, that must look HUGE on your finger. Have you posted a picture of it before? Would love to see it.

My ratio is .75 but it's just because my ring size is a 4.

I'd love to see a handshot of the lucky lady with a size 3 finger & huge rock!!

Hi cflutist, here it is. Enjoy!

mine's .206 (1.03, size 5)... wishing for that .4 (2 ct) someday!

How about those of us who have to go larger due to knuckle size?

I am a 4.75, but I have to order a 5.25 due to my knuckle size.

3.01 ct / size 3.75 = .80 for me

0.87/3.5 = 0.25 for me.
But my centre stone is a sapphire (higher specific gravity than diamonds) so it looks smaller than a 0.87ct diamond.

Interesting poll.

.16
if you go by the size I need to fit over my knuckle, it's 4.75 ring to .76 stone.

if you go by my ring size, it's .17, 4.5 ring to .76 stone. BTW, I think that's the way it should count for those out there with big knuckles. You don't wear your ring on the widest part of your finger (knuckle), you wear it on the narrowest.

Edited for punctuation to clarify numbers

mine is 0.35...1.54 ct princess to a size 4.25 finger. I hate the morning bulge of the finger! Can't slide it off the finger, but by mid-day, the ring rolls around.

size 2.5??? wOw! that looks like a monster! beautiful!! hmm..the finger diet...what an idea! MelissaSue also has a lovely size 3 finger too, and a wonderful e-ring too!

My goodness!
I would have to have a 10ct stone to have 1.26 ratio. Size 8 fingers!

Don't have a ring yet- but am figuring it will be around 1.1ct asscher/size 8 finger= .14

Sigh- humongous fingers. Scarred by man fitting rngs at high school for senior ring. He asked me what size, I said 8.

He said- there is no way- that is huge- too big for a girl (I was a clothing size 2 back then, add a 1 in front now!

)

so he used his sizers, and realized- yep- man hands.

So, .14 it will be...and look even smaller due to shape of stone I want!

..

Mine is 1.55 carat with a size 5 finger = .31
Did I do that right?

I cannot imagine having size 2.5!! That's unbelievable!

Hm... I don't get it. When seein that % over 1 I thought the diamond would be larger than the finger !???

I might be crazy after a night of writing, but here goes: please find table of diamond size (diameter of RBC) over finger size (inner diameter of ring for US sizes) below.

Two fun facts emerge:

- my size 3 is 80% of a size 8 (not 3/8=40%) so… having a larger finger size doesn’t mean much actually.

- given the “golden” e-ring ctw of 1ct and the standard ring size of 6, it seems that the most romantic of all e-ring diamonds covers just less than 40% of finger. For each ring size, this look actually corresponds to different weights. Go figure

(PS: hopefully I am not that strange - only trying to make a 'ring builder' for fun and this type of data goes into it).

Yeah.. I didn't really think the whole ratio thing with ring size made any sense, because ring sizes are not a "continuous variable" if you know what I mean.. As valeria says.. a size 6 is NOT twice as big as a size 3, as a 2 ct diamond is tiwce as big as a 1 ct diamond (if the cut is identical.. etc...) So while all this math is fun.. it doesn't really mean anything.
