I just sold something on Ebay (small item less than $20) and the buyer is paying me through PayPal, as I requested, but with an echeck. I''ve never had anyone do an echeck before - I don''t plan on shipping the item until the funds are in my PayPal account, but just want to make sure there''s nothing iffy about the transaction.

As long as you keep evidence of the item you''re sending to the buyer, paypal should protect you, even if the buyer tries to dispute the claim and not pay you.

When checking on payment, open a new internet browser window, log on, and check for the funds. Do not follow any financial links from an e-mail message. If you get an e-mail message saying payment has been sent, click here to verify or something like that...

Don''t use the link or button in the e-mail message. Open a new internet browser window. Go to Paypal.com. Log in. Check for funds.

This applies to banks, credit cards, etc. as well. Don''t follow financial links in e-mail messages regardless of how convincing they look. You can''t confirm where they really go and can easily go to a pretty convincing dummy site. Lots of horror stories about it. I read one on here recently too.

As long as you do this, and see the deposit, you should be safe and protected.

Thanks, guys!

I will definitely be logging in to PayPal to make sure the funds are in the account before shipping anything. Not a bad idea to take pictures of the item, too...

I just got a little freaked out because the few times I''ve sold stuff on Ebay I never had anyone use an echeck...and then PayPal sent me this email:

Important Note: xxxxxxxxx has provided an unconfirmed address. If you are planning to ship items to xxxxxxxxxx, please check the Transaction Details page of this payment to find out whether you will be covered by our Seller Protection Policy.

This buyer does have about 20 feedback comments, all positive, and she''s been a member since ''04, so I''m sure it will be OK. Just double checking, there''s been a few posts here lately about purchasing/selling scams.
