Background: I want to buy a set of pearls for each of my 5 bridesmaids, and a set of pearls for myself for my wedding next September.

I was looking at the black friday ads for pearls and saw that two stores are selling a double strand of 9.5-10.5 pearls for $79-99 (for myself) and two stores are selling a three piece set of 8-9mm pearls for $40-50 (for my ''maids).

I havent been able to see these in person, so I dont know what the quality is, but the prices seem incredible, can they really be that bad for the prices quoted?

I also found the thread on hand knotting pearls, and have been considering purchasing pearls wholesale and making the necklace/bracelets myself, I''d imagine the price might work out to be pretty closely the same, but for the same amount of money spent I could get much higher quality pearls. I was looking at Pearllunar''s ebay page to make my purchase from (it seems PearlParadise''s prices were higher?).

I''ve made jewelry before and I feel comfortable handknotting pearls, but (although I dont think this is the case) I was wondering if you actually thought the black friday pearls may be something to consider...

I think for that price the pearls will just be okay. But you never know because you haven't seen them in person yet. Pearllunar does have some nice pearls at inexpensive prices. Hand knotting is an option but it would take a lot of time. But if you feel okay about that it is an option and yes you could use really nice perls. Have you checked out any of the other online pearl vendors like pearlparadise.com yet?

May you be happily married for many years. My husband and I have been together 31 years+, and we married very young in front of a justice of the peace. I take all of my purchases(or items I am considering) to the very best jeweler in town and ask for their opinion. The jeweler has always been nice and open, and i have learned so much over the years. Occasionally, I have even paid full retail and purchased directly from the jewler, but he is always kind and informative and I have learned so much about jewelry! You are young, getting married....time to find a jeweler and make a friend. ronnilee
