Hey Everyone!

I was looking online before at Blue Nile, but it has been SOOO confusing for me, so I have been reading all of the posts on this site trying to make sense of everything. I had been to a few places downtown Chicago looking around too. Then I saw an ad in Chicago Magazine for Burdeen''s and I figured since they are so close to my house I would try it out. Their rings are BEAUTIFUL, and I thought the quality was amazing. I There staff is really young and cool, I dealt with one of their Gemologists. I was looking at a diamond though, and I don''t know a lot about quality yet, I do know I thought it was sparkly! The guy who helped me was awesome! They were asking $16000.00 for just the rock. But since I am just starting to learn can someone help me out? Is this a good diamond, and of course, is it a good price?

Do you have pictures or any kind of ASET image for the stone? Fancy cuts need to each be judged individually...

But honestly the price seems too good to be true for a well cut stone, so my guess is that it isn't well cut which will majorly affect sparkle.

What is an ASET image? They sent me a picture of the rock, should I post the picture?

Sure! Pictures can help a lot.

Thanks so much for your help. The guy at Burdeen''s was really straight with us he said the certification was from 2005, and since they owned this diamond for a cheaper price they would sell it to me for a cheaper price, it sounded really fair to me... And he showed me the certification and everyhting, I copied all the information down from the certification, and I even checked it out on GIA website, and it all matched up.

We bought my e-ring and our wedding bands from Burdeen's, they are amazing! We don't buy jewelry anywhere else.

I'm not a big princess cut person, so I can't comment on your particular diamond, but I wanted to say that you cannot go wrong with Burdeen's. Matt and Jason Burdeen are incredible, and they recently hired a man named Brandon (I believe) who is also great to work with.

My hubby is so particular, I can't tell you how many hours we spent talking with Matt about details.

I had to reply; I was so happy to see a post about Burdeen's. (I'm actually bringing a friend in there tomorrow to check out halos.)

(I grew up in that area, and I teach in a local HS. We must live near each other, small world.)

ETA: I just wanted to add--if you're not totally satisfied with this diamond, they'll bring in more until you find one that makes your heart sing. You will not be disappointed with Burdeen's. We also found their prices to be very competitive.

I would consider buying an ASET scope and learning how to use it. It looks like the symmetry is pretty off, so there might be performance issues, but it isn't the worst pattern I've ever seen on a princess for sure...what I would do is go in and ask if they have any AGS0 princess stones (these are "ideal" princesses) to compare it to. Then look at both under a variety of lighting conditions and see if there are major performance differences.

And here is more info than you probably ever wanted to know about ASET:

How did it go Prettycabonqueen? Did you buy the stone?

I thought of you when I went in to Burdeen''s the other day to have my rings cleaned. Love them!
