Hi all,

First time poster, long time lurker.

I have begun searching for a engagement stone and would appreciate some expert advice. My budget is approx $7000. I have decided on a round stone great than 1.1 carat. The rest is up in the air. Ideally, I want to get maximum bang for my buck..any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Youramigo! Welcome

Found some for you ...

1.118 G Si2 A Cut Above, $5,648 (PS discount)
1.121 H SI2 A Cut Above $5,586 (PS discount) - This one looks really clean!

If you contact Whiteflash, they will be happy to let you know whether or not both of these diamonds are "eyeclean" ... that way you can be assured you will not see any inclusions with your unaided eye.

I hope that helps! Good luck with your search!

Hope you find something you love!

Yes there are lots out there which might suit you Amigo, let us know when you can if the 7k is for the whole ring or just for the centre diamond, then we can give you some more examples once we know more about your budget.

Thank-you all for the quick replies.

You would have to check if this one is eyeclean.

Exactly what I did with my $7k budget last summer----got a AGS0 J/SI2 and I LOVE it! For me personally, there was just no way to turn down SIZE when I saw that J/SI2 AGS000. Bang for the buck is right!

I understand what AGS0 is, but what is AGS000?

Thanks

HI:

According to AGS rating: D color = 0, Internally Flawless = 0, Light Performance (Ideal cut) = 0.

How about this one? ... right under your budget and bigger than what you initially requested ...

AGS000 is the old name for the AGS0 colloquially. Usually it means the same thing now. But it used to mean something different, what Sharon posted. Now it means that it has ideal light performance, symmetry, and polish.

My only concern with all you pics is the color and clarity. Being totally new to this, can someone tell me if I am losing out on the visual appeal of the stone if I go into SI2 and color G, H, I?

Was thinking to stay at SI1 (eye clean) and D,E,F....am I expecting to much for my budget?

Cut is the most important factor for a diamond's beauty. It helps a diamond to face up whiter and if it is eyeclean, a lower clarity diamond will look just as good as one of very high clarity, assuming the cuts are excellent. Many here have well cut GHI and even J colour diamonds of eyeclean SI2 clarity and are delighted with their diamonds. Always check carefully with a vendor who can see the diamond if it is eyeclean.

Also you will pay more for DEF colours, SI is a good clarity choice, but in order to get a higher colour, you may have to go smaller and that won't get you as much bang for the buck as it seemed you wanted originally. A nice middleground might be SI1 clarity and G or H colour perhaps.

No worries Spark

youramigo ... I tend to be with you in sticking to the DEF range ... It's just my personal perference. Have you seen many diamonds in person to determine what your color preference is?

SI1 -- is a good bargain if you can find a nice eyeclean stone.

If this is what you would like, I've found some more stones you may wish to consider, however, they are around the 1.00 carat range, which is not a huge difference to the 1.10 or so you were seeking.

1.02 D Si1 Hearts & Arrows $7,091 Good Old Gold
1.00 F Si1 Hearts & Arrows $5,250 James Allen
1.00 E Si1 $4,870 James Allen

Selection seems to be more limited in the D-E-F range for around 1.10 carats, thus if you contact the vendors directly, they might be better able to assist you as they have access to more diamonds than what is actually posted on their sites.
I am fairly certain they should be able to get you something *around* your range with the specifications you desire.

I hope this helps!

Yeah, I didn''t know it was a pretty good deal until I quickly started romancing an upgrade---I love my stone, just always want bigger bigger bigger. I can''t find anything even the size I have now (same color clarity---I''m already shopping bargain basement in those areas
2.gif
) for anywhere near what I paid. So much for adding a grand or so to get a bigger rock. Not going to happen. Yeah, I came in over $500 under budget on this stone even.

I didn''t intend to cause any confusion or misrepresentation of my stone, it''s no where NEAR the "old" AGS000 (color/clarity/light)---it''s the new AGS000 (polish/symmetry/light).

Youramigo, if you''re concerned that you may be a bit color sensitive, I would think G-H would be fine (as are I and J even for some of us). D-E-F is overkill if you''re trying to maximize a budget IMO.

HI:

There are at least three AGS 0 diamonds in the 1-1.05 carat range, D/E/F color and VS clarity if you do not mind blue fluoresence. On the the Infinity site:
