Hello all,

From what I understand of the Bscope, different cuts are measured on different scales in the machine. For instance a score of Very High for a Round cut is a different measurement than Very High for a Princess.

How are these differences determined and is there any data on the differing scales between the cuts?

Thanks for all the help!

There is no data on the scales for the different cuts relative to one another. It would make sense to measure all the stones on the same scale so that a true relative comparison can be made, but no one wants to see their fancy cuts show up at the bottom of the scale.

The way the chart is calibrated is by sampling some stones and calling the best of the bunch the top performer. I believe Randy at GemEx is quoted as saying the scale is linear between the best and worst measured stones and the distribution (for rounds anyway) is somewhat of a bell curve. It's not exactly scientific.

We are all waiting for the results of Jonathan's new tool (Isee2).
It will be more precise than the BScope, no?
