I am thinking to buy a diamond which has an unpolished (Bruted) grilde and is not laser inscribed. Can you do laser inscription if the gridle is not polished? Will the inscription do any damage to the gridle or in general to the diamond?
Thanks for your comment.

I'm not sure about this, but I think that a girdle needs to be faceted, or at a minimum, polished somewhat in order to put an inscription on it. If you're really set on having an inscription on a diamond, you could probably find someone to polish the girdle, and then put the inscription on after that. What's your reason for wanting an inscription? If it's just to identify the diamond for security reasons, there are other things that can be done to serve that purpose.

We occasionally engrave a diamond with a bruted girdle. It is not a probem, a risk, or difficult. It works just fine.
All we need is sufficient width to do the job.

Thanks all for your input. Actually this is for identifying the diamond and also heard that insurance companies may offer some sort of premium discount if the diamond is inscribed or has Gem Print identification on it.

my diamond has bruted girdle and it was lazer inscribed. it was acutally very easy to see the inscription that way. no problems or issues whatsoever.. good luck!
