I was looking at Leon''s site again - looking at rings for sale and I saw this ring:

http://www.artofplatinum.com/4images/details.php?image_id=290

He describes it as a Brown diamond. I know they are the least valuable, but what do you think this would look like in person?
It looks like a fun bauble for the RH?

Just wondering what other PSers think of brown diamonds.

I love congac diamonds as accent jewelry, RHR''s, cocktail rings, pendants, etc! I think they are gorgeous and unique. However, I think for an everyday piece like a wedding band or e-ring, I prefer staples such as white diamonds, sapphires, and maybe yellow diamonds.

This ring is beautiful. Leon''s work is amazing.

I agree with Koursie, a good colour brown diamond is great for the situations she mentions, but not so much for an e-ring unless that is what the wearer wants.

As to what it looks like in person, probably incredible, as Leon chose this particular diamond to fly the flag for the coloureds, as usual, cut is key.

Haha. We were just talking about this over on LIW:

I think that Leon ring is gorgeous.

I saved this picture long ago just because I thought it was so neat looking...almost taupe. Definitely not icky-poo!

Beautiful Diamond...

And the prices of these "icky-poo''s" are on the up-trend..., and quite steeply...

Is there a specific reason these are on the up-trend? Is it just a new fashion right now? In an old posting on PS I read that Browns are poorly cut (in general). Is this still the case?

there are many shades, that one looks richer like brandy, and I think as a rhr it is amazing!

Beauty is in the eye of the person wearing the ring! And that LM ring is stunning!!!

I mentioned it in a different thread...

Just came back from BaselWorld..., and chocolate colors are all over the place!!!

In colored Gems, Diamonds and metals too....

Since colorless Diamonds are getting more expensive from month to month..., it was bound to start pulling the colored Diamonds to close the gap a bit!!!

And top jewelry designers are using these Gems smartly!!!

I have definately noticed that. I really think this LM ring is stunning.

My first thought was ''icky poo''. Then I saw the picture, and I think it''s gorgeous. I guess Leon can even make icky poo beautiful.

Colored diamonds usually depend on contrasting them with colorless diamonds nearby. Sometimes a designer will mix in some colored gems and a variety of color and colorless diamonds to highlight the color of the main stone. Even the metal of the mounting can serve to highlight certain elements.

Colored diamonds need to be explained to people all the time. If you want to engage in this kind of interaction you will find colored diamonds are a good conversation starter. If you prefer privacy and less questioning, then stick with more common gems.

I like it for a "fun ring" but again as kcoursolle said, not for an everyday ering.

From a jewelry designer in England; some very nice designs -
sorry, I''ve lost the name and the link, maybe someone here recognizes the work...

That LM is beautiful! And that''s a perfect setting for it.

I love the deep colors- chocolate, cognac...(hey wait- maybe I love them because I love to eat them!)

Those deep, bright browns really are lovely. Not for an everyday ring, but I think it could accessorize really well! I like the idea of a little Hershey''s kiss on my finger...

No, the first designer has a more organic, less polished look. But this is one by Harriet that I looked at while chossong a design for my band with blue melee, hers are quite nice, too, she has a lot of new things since I visited last...

I thought it looked too polished! I swear I''ve seen those rings before though... I just can''t remember who designed them either...

I know... I tried to find (his?) name, but couldn't, his things are slightly quirky; look at the marquise, you'll see a fairly large open culet windowing there...and other things...high quality handcraft, for sure.

I think the diamond is a nice color and the setting is stunning. This is a good RHR in my opinion. What bothers me about that stone is that the table looks positively gargantuan. Maybe it''s just the photo; you could inquire about that. If the cut does not detract from the stone I think it''s a great ring.

I would buy a brown/ taupe diamond in a minute - I like those colors!

A while back I saw a brown in person that had an exelent looking ASET image and was very well cut.
I liked it a lot for a pendant but not really the right thing for a ring too me.
.92ct for $960 if I recall right and they had a parcel of 5 of them.
