Is Briolette a stone or a cut? Is it a "real" stone?

"Briolette" is a term for an elongated cut: briolettes are used as decorative drops in necklaces, earrings, and occasionally bracelets (their points are rather delicate). There is a synthetic that goes by a similar name - briolite? - but it''s basically just glorified CZ sold for ridiculously inflated prices.

Some briolettes.
