Hi,

I need help picking a diamond from Brilliant Earth. I know it seems that the forum likes to suggest whiteflash, but the free return shipping to Canada means quite a lot to me. I have zero confidence I am choosing something she will like and I am usually wrong on this stuff. Seems like BE is the only one offering this to Canadians.

Unless there is a reason why Brilliant Earth is bad or whiteflash is so much better than the rest, can someone help me pick a Brilliant Earth Diamond?

I am looking for something round, around the 1.4-1.5 ct range, G-F Color, ideal cut, and vs1 (min specs I am working with). My budget is probably around 10-13k USD. Maybe a bit more if stepping up will net me something a great deal better. In the end, regardless of what the specs end up being, I am just looking for something that s 100% eye clean and shines.

Thanks. I must have misread that on their policy. I'll keep an eye out for their stuff too.

There are plenty of diamonds over 1.5 at JA.

Whiteflash gets dropped around here a lot because of their lifetime upgrade policy (whatever it cost you on the first diamond is applied to the upgrade diamond, no need to upgrade 1 or 2 items like colour, clarity or carat weight and you don't need to find something that costs double what you originally paid for the upgrade policy to take effect). Their cut quality also is generally better than JA as WF's inventory is in-house whereas JA's is a mixture of in-house and virtual inventory.

Yes. I realized I wasn't seeing any larger stones due to the setting I was choosing.

Can anyone share their thoughts on the following diamond? I have placed it on hold.

The HCA tool gives the following

Light Return Excellent
Fire
Excellent
Scintillation
Excellent
Spread or diameter for weight
Very Good
Total Visual Performance 1.7 - Excellent
within TIC range

I say decent. The depth is high at 62.6, meaning you lose some spread (0.05-0.10mm). Ideally, you want less than 62. Some stones are less than 61.

Other numbers are good. It has potential and may worth asking for the idealscope image. I did a quick search. There are not many options currently.

Your budget is reasonable. But your criteria and decision to stick with vendors with free return restricts your options. I understand. I went with the same route.

Very good. Ask for the idealscope image

Here is the ideal scope image. Based off of what I have read online, it look okay. But I really have no idea.

Is that a ring of low intensity light return around the center (or some leakage) I see there? Or is this a photography issue?

Light is strong - it is a very fine stone.
Interested in what you all think about brilliant Earth - I wonder if they are a bit over hyped on their ethical promises?

Go for it. It is a winner.

PS. Nothing against BE (although I am aware of their questionable marketing tactics). It is just JA is a proven and reliable vendor with free shipping and return to Canadian customers. They offer images for all their stones and IS for some. Often cheaper. No contest.

The very same DiamCalc virtual diamond with different strength backlighting

Based off Garry's Diamcalc IS imagery, go for it. Should be a good light performer.

Hi Garry,

It just mind boggling how a Company like BE doesn't seem to think they need to really address their "ethical promises" which were called basically unworthy almost two weeks ago in "that" YouTube video.

Keeping quiet might help their objective? I seriously doubt it but nothing would surprise me.
