A stone I want to purchase has a comment under the proportions table on the GIA certificate...

"Cut grade affected by brillanteering"

I want to know if this is just plain brillanteering or is there painting done? OR even worst, Digging....

Is there a way for me tell by looking at the proportions chart?

They had someone look at the stone internally and said one of the facets is not perfectly cut. She would not say painted or digging. Said it''s brillanteering.

You need to see the stone. That's all. GIA is vague.

What was the GIA cut grade? likely it's painting and the ribs will be less defined, but I doubt the stone is hideously deformed. Get the stone to an appraiser outside if you relly like it. If not, there are others out there with better brillianteering..
