I’m interested in a “dbty” bracelet and have read many here are happy with their BG bracelet. I’m interested in platinum with 5 or 6 diamonds around. Try as I might, I can not understand the lingo when describing the bracelets; particularly “pointers.”

I’m guessing .15 or .20 is the ctw per diamond. And stations are how many bezeled diamonds there are, but to what does “pointers” refer?

Also, do the diamond points at the back stick out and poke skin? I’d like to avoid this. What can I do/order to make it so I wouldn’t get poked? Smaller diamonds?

Finally, I’m thinking it is possible to get a 6” length rather than the standard 7”. My wrist is 5.5”. Would a 6” be about right?

Sorry for such basic questions. I really have put several hours into research before finally coming here. The archives have been so helpful, but any new pics or I put you’d like to share would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! :kiss2:

I heard back from BG. I was quoted, “5 x .06 F/G VS Brian Gavin Signature melee set in delicate hand made bezels, and evenly spaced on a 7 inch chain and small lobster clasp will be $995.”

Are the diamonds quoted here teeny tiny? I’m fine with small. Just wondering how small they are.

Also, I was told the cutlet does stick out but they have never received complaints about poking. I’m hoping poking isn’t an issue.

Thanks for any comments, thought, or input you might have! =)2

6pt is small, not the tiniest possible, but small. I would personally prefer to see at least 10pt. Have you reached out to IDJ for a quote? They have beautiful meleè and their prices are always competitive.

Thanks for your reply. What exactly is a point? Are we talking .06 and .1 ct diamonds? I will inquire about a 10 point as well as getting a quote from IDJ. I read good things about them too. Thanks!

I have a few dbty type pieces. The larger stones will stck out an d be scratchy.

Good to know! I’m guessing 6 or 10 point isn’t even close to being a “larger” stone. Would that be more like a 25 point?

I am not really sure what size they are. I would think that 6 or 10 wouldn't stick out to much.

@SimoneDi - do you know what the average size would be?

To give you an idea of size/scale, the bracelet in this pic is a BGD shared prong with .08 stones.

Personally, I think .06 might be a little too delicate in a dbti, but the quality of the melee will be superb.

Hi @LittleRed -

There are 100 pts in a carat. So a point is 1% of a single ct. A 10 point stone is 1/10th of a ct. 25 points is a quarter of a ct, and so on. A 2ct stone is 200 points - tho people tend not to use the point terminology over 100; it's a specific way of measuring and referring to smaller stones.

Diamonds in jewelry with multiple small diamonds are generally referred to in points. Like - a dbty bracelet might have 7 x 10 pointers ('pointers' is a lazy person's way of saying 'point stones' ie a 10 pointer is a 10 point stone) - ie 7 stones, each 10 points (1/10th of a ct). There's also a reasonably standardized measure for various sized diamonds; a 1 ct stone is normally 6.4 - 6.45mm. 1/2 ct (50 points) is normally around 5.1mm. 1/4ct is normally 4.1mm.

Smaller diamonds also have these (roughly) standardized measurements. I'll attach a list below, so you can see what size each weight is. Although ct is a weight, not a width or specific size, given that round brilliants tend to be cut to a certain pattern, the sizes end up being pretty similar between well cut stones of an identical weight. If you were to get 50 1ct stones, and they were well cut, you'd find that they were all between, say, 6.35mm and 6.5mm in width - even though they're all 1ct (ie the same weight).

Here's the graph for the general sizes of all different weights. If you decide you want a bracelet with 6 x 15 pointers - or any other weight stone - you'll be able to use this list to work out how big each stone should be.

NB When you look at this image, mentally draw a line down the middle; they've doubled up the layout, rather than make one really long image.

Average for DBTY? I am not sure really, I would venture to guess anywhere between 5pt-25pt. I have seen DBTY with a closed backing or a bridge behind to alleviate the scratching, but I think the best way would be for OP to try some bracelets on and see for herself what she finds comfortable.

That was super helpful and answered any question I had. Thank you for the time you spent on a very clear explanation!

You're welcome. :)

I just remembered I have this 20 yo bracelet that has been through a series of mishaps and is in need of a new life. I’m confident the emeralds aren’t a high quality at all, but think they might work in a dbty platinum bracelet. I prefer emeralds in yellow gold, but like to wear white metals more often, so platinum it is wether with emeralds or diamonds.

What do you think? These emeralds in a platinum dbty? Are emeralds in a bracelet a big mistake?

Well, that would make this a cs topic.... I’m still very much interested in a diamond dbty and am awaiting two quotes.

Thanks for all opinions!

The emeralds look to be 4 mm stones. That would be the equivalent to .25 carats or 25 points each if diamonds.

Emeralds on the top of a bracelet worn with care and respectfully, not a problem. Emeralds on a bracelet that will be on the bottom of your wrist and worn daily...not such a great idea IMHO. Especially bad if on your dominant arm.

That’s what I was thinking. They are on the top in their current bracelet but some would be on the bottom in a “dbty.”

Do the clasps generally stay on the underside, acting as a weight?
