Breast cancer fears...maybe TMI

Woohoo! So happy for you, ihy138,

tyty - density is measured via your mammogram, and the percentage will be in your mammo report. High density is such a strong risk factor that some states have passed legislation that requires your doctor to inform you if you're very dense, like I am! So either you're not dense, or you might be but don't live in one of those states. Further info is on areyoudense.org

Every woman should know her density. And doing The Times crossword won't help.

If the judge is the Times crossword puzzle, I'm sure I'm pretty dense!:lol-2:

I'll ask next time I go to the Doc and see if its in the report. THanks for the info Jambalaya!

Tyty, Every Mammogram technician has told me I have very dense breasts. I would ask your doctor as I'm pretty confident it would be noted in your past mammogram reports if you have dense breasts.

Ihy138, I'm so glad everything worked out well for you and you've been given a clean bill of health!

Tyty, I agree with Callie - I would just check with your doctor. I have always gotten a letter after a mammogram telling me I have dense breasts. I had a mammogram recently and my doctor called me to tell me that I have extremely dense breasts, the highest category, and he told me to get an ultrasound. I'm in NJ. I had one done last week and everything is fine - although I did have a bit of a scare, the tech took a long time on one of my breasts and had the doctor come in to check me personally, yikes. Thankfully he gave me the all clear, whew.

Jambalaya, thank you for posting the information on breast density, it really helped me out this past week. Strange how timely your posts were for me!

Thank you so much luv2sparkle and junebug!

And OMG, the dense breast conversation had me

I'm so glad this thread could be a resource for you all and myself as well! Education is key. :read: Thanks everyone for your support!

Scary, isn't it, Junebug? I have a family history of breast cancer plus other risk factors such as never having had children, so I also get MRIs. I have lots of large painful cysts that hurt a lot for 1-2 weeks of the month, and I'm debating whether to get some of them drained or just leave everything well alone.

Jambalaya, it really was a little scary, I was relieved but shaking when I left the office and was out of sorts for the rest of the day...I had gone thinking the testing was just a precaution (which I guess it was) so I was thrown by the tech's concern. I'm sorry you have to deal with those cysts - good luck with your decision, it's a tough call.

So sorry you both have breast woes as well! Sometimes these things are more trouble than they are worth. Glad you are both okay junebug and jambalaya. I have a sebaceous cyst on my bra line that is uncomfortable as well but don't want to do anything about it or disturb the peace as it were because I figured that the area had had enough trauma as of late. It would be nice to not have to worry about these things. But I still count my blessings!

Oh me too ihy138! I'm so grateful to be in good health - It's really the most important thing in life imho!
