breakfast ideas

If you might call oatmeal/water/salt a breakfast, this is mine. I need coffee - as good as it gets, as a Turkish brew, potentially with cardamon involved.

I was in my mid 40's before I realized I had developed a full-blown adult-onset allergy to sugar. Like - genuinely allergic. It had been getting worse for years, but by the time I hit 50, if I ate a bunch of chocolate or candy, or hoed into the desserts at one of those fabulous hotel buffets, my heart would start to race, and my face would go bright red and swell up in about 20 minutes. Then my joints would ache, and it sets off my Crohns like nothing else. As a result - I had to give up my favorite thing in the whole world - CAKE! So buh bye pancakes, waffles, sweet muffins, and all manner of sweet things.

On the other hand...HELLOOOO DAIRY! I now eat a LOT of eggs and drink even more milk than I used to. I don't eat bacon (ethical reasons) but I can make a cheese and herb, or salmon and onion omelet that would make the angels weep (the trick is to stir in cottage cheese)! And I luuuurve oatmeal - made with all milk, and served with a large blob of Greek yoghurt (0% fat) and heavy whipped cream stirred together and sprinkled with chopped walnuts. I can still do fruit, so either of those dishes, with a side serving of fruit, is my 'treat' breakfast - or brunch. Otherwise I alternate between plain oatmeal with a little milk or scrambled eggs with sliced tomato on the side. And coffee. Always coffee. And copious amounts of water. (I'm old - I have to hydrate - what can I say??)

My brain and my stomach wake up two hours after I get up.. So coffee is all that is needed.
