Just picked engagement ring! When I viewed the diamond in store it didn't appear to have this darker shadow in the middle of ring does this look like a prominent bow tie to you or are my eyes funny..
Dark contrast (arrows in round, bowtie in oval/pear) is created by head/body shadow. In a jewelry store, the environment is very well lit, and you get bright light from all angles; therefore it is difficult to cast head/body shadow to assess dark contrast.
It must have some facets going straight through the middle. I would not call that prominent though. Do you have the GIA
report number? Might be able to look up the faceting pattern. Is it an 8 main or a 6 main (pavilion)?
