Hello PS! I made a post a couple months ago about searching for rings. By the end of it, we decided to go with Do Amore, but then changed our minds and went ahead with this ring instead:

Here's the unset diamond:

Just received it yesterday. It's a beautiful ring. The setting looks good on her finger, and we like the antique cushion cut look, but we are having some issues with the J color. We can notice the ivory indoors, even when facing up. Not sure if we should return it, or just get over it. Does anyone have a similar experience, and regret keeping/returning a J colored stone? Should we keep the setting, and continue searching for a different center stone? Not sure what to do with the narrow return window. Thanks for your help.

The advice we usually give in this situation is that if the color bothers you now then it will always be somewhat bothersome.
I would never suggest you "get over" something that is bothering you especially considering the cost. This is something she
should love. My advice is to return.

Edit...btw, I like it very much but I'm not color sensitive and own a few J colored stones.

Maybe she should try wearing it in different light conditions? Warmer stones tend to be chameleons and look different in different lights/surroundings. Natural light/outside/store/etc. If you can do this safely of course.

Your ring is so elegant and beautiful, just perfect. I love the design of the ring and the cut of the center diamond. That being said, if you have qualms about the color of the diamond, it will haunt you in the future. Best to return it and shop for a new center stone. Not the easiest solution, but perhaps the best.

If you both find the J-color too warm upon initial receipt and inspection in your own home, I don't think this is the right stone for you (although the ring and stone are beautiful). I would encourage you to return the ring for refund.

If you prefer the antique-style cushion, perhaps this 1.506ct H-VS2 August Vintage Cushion would suit?

and reach out to David Klass for a price quote for a setting with tapered baguettes or go with a classic solitaire to keep costs down.

I think if the color bothers you now, it will always bother you. Is there an easy upgrade policy? If so, maybe worth keeping and seeing if you can easily upgrade color in a few months.

edited to add— I think it’s stunning. Love the setting!

I agree with previous posters in that I truly love the ring but if the color bothers you now, it may only get worse. I do like the suggestion to see it in different lighting conditions. Good Luck!

Tint gets much more respect in this style of cut, it is often said that there is a match of cut & color [a subtlety, but not gibberish, methinks]. Might it be possible to ask for a longer return window to live with it a little & compare with colourless modern cuts?

It is very beautiful.

I love the setting (angled baguettes my fav!) and the stone is so pretty! Classic and beautiful. With that said, I’m not the wearer and the two of you could be color sensitive. There’s nothing wrong with that. I’m totally ok with a J but some ppl find it too warm for their liking and prefer H or even G and up. I would return it while the window is still open and start over.

Ditto! I had a J colored stone (was told it was almost a K) and i lived with it for 7 years before I upgraded to an H (I now have a high I and I'm good!) I would go to a jeweler that has GIA colored stones and see where your threshold lies, of you can, or look online at diamond color videos. Upgrading in color can be expensive, I wouldn't want to spend one extra penny on something that I cant see. Good luck with whatever you decide!! Its a lovely setting!!

What a stunning ring!!! I am not helpful as I went from a colorless stone to a U-V coloured OEC

Beautiful stone and ring. Usually your initial reaction tells you what you truly think. I agree, if you have reservations about the color now you always will. Don’t let the return window close if you are unsure.
Good luck!

Contact the vendor(s) now to let them know you are thinking about things, so they are not surprised at the last moment with a Returns request - it would show you are taking your time to reach a sensible conclusion but want to be up front with them early.

I personally would prefer G up, especially for antique cushion cuts which body color is more obvious.
J color is a warmer color tone and many people are able to discern between warm tone of J and G up. I prefer whiter so I would go for at least G. However, it depends on individual preference too, so it's best to compare. So if it is bothering, it might be good to return and play safe.

By the way, good choice on the setting design, it's lovely!

Ask Grace if she can find you another whiter stone to fit into that setting.....

Colour is subjective everyone has a different tolerance or set of standards they like. Nothing is wrong or right it's is simply what is right for you!!!!
