wow - she must be thrilled. what type of setting does she like?

I was going to get some suggestions and show her the choices. At this point, I would definately want her input. I understand that a bigger diamond
should have a setting that is lower. Beyond that, I am at a loss.

Arthsia, you are most welcome I am so glad you bought that one, you will both be so delighted with it!!!

As for the setting, Leon would be incredible as Po suggested, or WF have some gorgeous ones such as....

Here are Whiteflash Referral Policies

But you could set that gorgeous diamond any way and it will be STUNNING!!!

Good job!

I really like this Michael B setting myself....

Wow, what a great choice! I hope she is prepared for a stone that large, though!

I would show her Leon Mege''s website as well as WhiteFlash. It can get overwhelming looking at settings, trust me. If she doesn''t see one on either of those, you can move to Pearlman''s who has many, many designers. But that will make things even more confusing!

Seriously, though, a three carat stone commands so much attention by itself, that I would choose the most simple, elegant setting I could find. Harriet chose Leon''s classic solitaire setting for her 3.6 carat stone.

I just had a thought, another incredible setting artisan is Mark Morrell at http://www.mwmjewelry.com/ it may be worth checking out his website.

It seems that you are now the 'expert' having purchased a 3.12 from WF....

I am a mere mortal and can only hope to bask in the sparkle of a stones that size. [An 'I' with MB flour and well over 3cts...sigh...I'm in love

You could stick it in Juicyfruit and it would look great! Really!

Which options are you and your wife considering? Plain, pave, side diamonds, yellow gold, plat, type of matching or non matching wedding bands etc? Throw us a bone and we will narrow down the search.

Ps, My fantasy choices are that Michael B by BlingItOn (I think it is about 8K

23.gif
) or the sleek Leon posted by diamondseeker2006 (except I prefer 6 prong).

What a happy start to the year!

I think something simple by Mark or Leon would really show that baby off! That''s what I would do, but does she like simple or fancier settings?

arthsia, congratulations, on a beautiful choice!!

It sounds like you''ll need to make a decision on a mount fairly soon....I wish my new mount was here so I could pic it for you as just one of many suggestions I''m sure you''ll consider.

The stone is the same size as your wife''s.... the mount is a platinum 4 prong ( split ) head with basket mounted in a 18K yellow gold 3 mm european shank. It is comfort fit with all edges smoothly polished. I told the craftsman that, when worn, I didn''t want to know the ring was on my finger.

As soon as it arrives I will take pics for you.

There is no one else that I would have make that setting. Do you realize that she wouldn''t be able to wear a wedding band with that ring? You shouldn''t wear anything against that pave. That setting is really beautiful, but unless your wife is a model or movie star, I think it is a little blingy for daily wear. Sorry, I just have to be honest with you. It is not a practical ring, but it would be fine for a dinner ring for special occasions.

oh see now I don''t think it''s too much! LOL!
When looking at it from the top, like almost everyone would, it would look like a solitaire on a thin pave band to me. It''s a nice surprise to see the sides, I don''t think it''s overdone personally

I recommended this stone to you last week when you asked and I''m so jealous you got it!! DH chose a local stone that 3.67 and we''ve decided to keep it on a plain tiffany style band and collect a bunch of fun eternity bands to mix and match w/ it and to stack when we travel and I don''t want to wear such a large obvious stone.

Not sure where I got this photo, might have been from here, but this is something like what we have in mind . . . but I change my mind about everyday!

That leon is amazing, and she could always wear a plain band or a pretty eternity if she was in a setting where she felt that it was too eye catching. To me? I would wear it most of the time! It is such a stunner.

You girls are funny since you both have large stones in PLAIN (but elegant and beautiful) platinum settings!

(I'm just trying to save them some headaches when those little stones inevitably fall out!)

That Leon is a fabulous setting, but it would need to be worn with care I would think, if it is used every day, but it is a stunner alright!

arthsia, you have excellent taste!!! First the beautiful, drool inducing 3Ct+, then the Leon Mege setting I have been saving since forever in my LapTop!!!

This is the another one I have been eyeing (before I have even decided on the Diamond
25.gif
):

I like how only the Shank is pave and not the Prongs, so it gives me the feeling that the Centre Stone is more securely gripped in its setting.
The fact that the Shank in this is slightly wider than his other designs also gives it a more substantial look and reduces the flopping to the side IMO (It could be totally psychological and I could be totally off the mark though....

my vote would be the Michael b, it''s designed for a wedding band to be worn with it. it''s also been one of my alltime favorite dream rings for a few years though to i''m biased i''m sure. I do think with a stone that large a simple and elegant solitaire might be a great idea, then she can do different bands to mix and match. there are a couple gals here with pave rings and miss putting them in ultrasonic cleaners for good cleanings for fear of stones coming loose. You''ll really have to think about what your wife will want? a ring she can wear 24/7, get super clean and be pretty much maintenance free, or something equally as beautiful but much more delicate and something she will have to baby.

What a Diamond!
30.gif
That''s a lucky lady you have!

I don''t have any pictures of ideas for the setting but I was thinking something simple. I like the first two that were posted. With the "twisted" paved band and then the one that looked like two thin bands. But I also think a plain solitaire would look amazing with it.

If you want your wife''s help and want to narrow down some pictures to show her I would first ask her if she wants solitaire or side stones then go on a hunt for choices for her.

The ring you posted is beautiful I haven''t seen anything like it... and while I really like how the diamonds go onto the bottom of the basket (I think that''s right) I would not want it as an ering or to go with a wedding set just because I wouldn''t want to wear it very often and I''m not a big fan of having a lot of diamonds in a spot that you can''t see, it just doesn''t look very safe to me. Your wife may be totally opposite of me though. I do like the one that BlingItOn posted for something similar.

I would definitely ask the wife though.

Good luck setting your beautiful stone and please post some pics once it''s completed.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I presented the diamond to my wife yesterday. She loves it! She is using the loupes to "inspect" the diamond. It is funny how she was looking at it for about one hour. Then she slept with it next to her.

She is very excited about choosing a setting. I asked her what kind of setting she might want. I will show her this thread tonight to look at the suggestions.

The classic tiffany is definitely good for everyday use.

I agree, I''ve been very happy w/ mine. Now all my husband has to do is remember a few weeks ahead of holidays to order a cute little eternity band in different flavors for when I want to add to my solitaire!

I am so glad she love it! I hope you show her Harriet''s 3 carat stone in the simple but elegant Leon setting! I agree with ringabling that it is a lot of fun to collect bands to go with a solitaire!

I hate you.
