Botched custom wedding band - is it fixable?

Dear PSers,

I recently had my wedding band custom made - same jeweler who did my engagement ring. The 1st band was a huge disaster, so I changed the design for something simpler - shared prong eternity.

I stressed many times that the prongs should be closer to center in order to have that scalloped edge look.

I even went up to 8-pointers to ensure this (my ring size is 3.5). This post has 8-pointers and has the look I want: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/1-68-ct-whiteflash-shared-prong-eternity-its-finally-here-loads-of-pics.117411/

I got the CAD back, and told him to move the prongs closer to center. He agreed to do so. https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/feedback-on-eternity-shared-prong-cad.195303/

I get the ring back and the prongs are pretty much flush to the diamond's edge, so it doesn't have the scalloped edge effect. It's not an ugly ring, but it's not what we wanted.wedding_band.jpg

He's saying that to move it much closer to center would make it an in-secure setting. And this was the best he could do.

Has anyone encountered this issue, and is it easy to fix? I have a feeling it's more about the cost of re-making the ring. Is there a way to achieve this look without remaking it! We've waited months now after the wedding.

I'm sorry the ring didn't turn out the way you wanted it to. That's always disappointing.

However, I'm fairly sure there have been posts about eternity bands with the prongs more centered such as you wanted are in fact unsecure like your jeweler communicated to you. I agree that the scallop look is appealing, but I'd be more concerned with my ring being strong enough for daily wear. Hopefully someone else will chime with more knowledge of this specific style of eternity band.

The prongs seem very thick.. maybe if he/she thinned them out...???

I have the same style eternity with 12 pointers. Are the prongs maybe too rounded and need to curve in and hug the diamonds more? Mine is very similar to yours but I do feel that I have a scalloped look. Do you have a direct shot photo?

How disappointing that it's not as you wanted it! I have the BGD Truth shared prong band with 5 pointers and the prongs are much more delicate than the ones in your picture. The prongs on mine are definitely thinner and not as bulky on the top as the ones in the picture you've posted.

I hope you can have it remade to your satisfaction - I love the look of shared prong and I'm sure yours will be extra-sparkly with the larger stones!

I can totally understand the jeweler not wanting to make an un-secure ring, but I feel those prongs are too big for the stones/settings. That may be what's bothering you more than their positioning. I have no idea what it would take to make the prongs smaller. Sorry!

I looked at your previous threads and am wondering if you asked him to put the holes under the diamonds? Most eternity rings have them and they do help to keep the ring clean. Also, I assume it is just a shadow/reflection illusion but the ring looks "off" at the bottom in the first photo. Outside of the prongs, are you happy with the workmanship?

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the replies. I don't have the ring so can't take a full-frontal photo of it. Those are the ones sent to us by the jeweler to show us that it looks similar to the one we liked (in the link posted above), completely irrelevant since he selected the photos taken at an angle and we were more concerned about how it looked straight-on.

The prongs do look HUGE in those photos, and I didn't remember them being so big in person. All I remember was that it didn't have the scalloped edge and I wasn't happy.

I asked about the holes underneath but didn't see it as a huge deal so agreed to not have them. The profile of the ring is nice, as it sits very low.

I'm still waiting to see what he says - if he can remake the ring or not. And if not, what his suggested solution is for us.

Any additional suggestions are very welcome!!

My suggestion would be to reject the ring, get a refund and have the ring made by the vendors who have made it the way you like it before. If you like the whiteflash ring why not get it from whiteflash?

I recommend having the azures (holes) done; you won't believe the amount of crud that can build up underneath the diamond, which affects how sparkly it looks.

This would be my suggestion. It's always best, imo, if you like something you see, to get it from the original creator rather than risk an inferior replica.

The prongs look a little bulky, but honestly, these magnified photos often give that appearance when it isn't like that in reality.

I personally absolutely would not want the prongs put too far in, because that is almost asking for the girdles of the diamonds to get chipped, in my opinion. The prongs being further out can help protect the diamonds. So that part is not a problem to me. That said, I like the quality of WhiteFlash diamonds and settings, so I would probably use them if you can get a refund.

We live overseas so ordering from Whiteflash would be complicated.

Jeweler still hasn't replied with solutions. Very annoying. I will see what he can do to get the prongs smaller and more delicate.

Will update soon!

Thank you for your advice LetItShine! We asked him to do what you suggested and they got their specialist to work on the prongs by hand. Looks great now!
