Boston: Advice Needed For Selling or Trading

Hello.

I have been looking all over the Internet for assistance on this matter so I hope some one will be able to help me out. Not to go into great detail, but I have an engagement ring from an engagement that didn''t quite work out from a couple of years ago. Now I am in a position to try this whole engagement thing again, the problem is that I don''t want to give this first ring (superstition, maybe?) to my girlfriend. I initially bought a .50 round from the Jeweler''s Exchange in Sudbury, MA, but then I went to a family owned store to add side diamonds to it as well. Because I modified the original piece from the first store, they will not work with me on a trade-in or buy back and neither will the second store. I know I could simply change the setting with original stones, but again, I would rather give something new in this situation. In total, I paid roughly $1800 for everything. I am willing to take a loss on a trade-in towards the purchase of a new ring, however, I haven''t found stores that advertise they do such a thing. Does anyone know stores around the greater Boston area that may allow me to trade in my current ring for another, or have any suggestions for me in general as to what I should do?

Any sale or trade-in you do with your ring is going to leave you on the wrong end of the stick. If you can afford it, I would put away the other ring and start over with a new ring. It would be seriously less expensive if you purchased a ring over the internet with one of the Pricescope vendors. Later when you are trying to get your new lady something special, you might find a match to that .50 in the old ring and give her a nice pair of diamond studs.

A 0.50ct stone would make a very nice pendant!

You will probably get 1/2 of what you paid, at best... If this does not bother you, than trade. There is some chance that some jeweler would take the three stones if you make the new ring at his shop, but I would not count on it (this worked for me, but not in the US). On the net, Diamondsbylauren.com takes old diamonds sometimes (I have been following his auctions, he has a virual shop too, and exchanged e-mails with Mr. Lauren...) when providing new ones. I would trust this place. However, getting a good portion of your expense back is a matter of very good luck anywhere.

PS: I can't possibley agree more with you that those three diamonds should get out of sight with their story with all!
