Hi...I''m new here. Need opinions on this stone from Blue Nile. It''s at the upper part of my range, but can afford it. Would mount on platinum. Is it better to drop to lower color/clarity to get a better stone? I know my girlfriend would be happy with 3/4 carrot.

This would be the setting -> http://img.bluenile.com/is/image/bluenile/-diamond-engagement-ring-platinum-/setting_template_main?$375_315$&$diam_shape=is{bluenile/integratedhead}&$diam_position=-20,5&$ring_position=0,0&$ring_sku=is{bluenile/DM90501500_setmain}

You can most definitely drop some color and clarity. Dropping one color and one clarity grade will save you over $1000, and no one will see the difference.

I didn''t really see any good deals on comparable stones at BN, but Whiteflash has a lot of similar inventory right now. Here are some stunners:

If you want colorless:

Even though G is a better deal than F:

And if you wanted an ACA, WF''s top cut:

Hi David and welcome!

The diamond in question looks great, I can''t quite read the pavilion angle but I am assuming it is 40.8? You could lower colour and clarity if you wished to get a larger diamond but this is down to personal preference. If so, take a look at Julie''s selections, she knows how to pick ''em!

Thanks Julie. Is Girdle: Thin to Medium okay, or should i stick with medium to medium? I know Thin is in the range, but I would think it''s better to have one that is even?

Girdle range from thin to slightly thick is considered well cut.

The girdle is fine and well within desirable range, read more from the Pricescope Tutorial on girdle thickness here.

Okay after feedback about WF and my girlfriend really likes the settings below a lot better then the BN one.

Setting in Platinum: http://www.whiteflash.com/golden-wardrobe/Gold_Details.aspx?ItemCode=354&size=5.00

The setting diamonds are G/H, so I''m guessing I would want to get a G color diamond or would F be okay?

I noticed from Julie''s link, there is a discount from pricescope. How do I get that discount?

Just tell them you are a PS member and ask for the discount.

Side stones general guideline is up to 2 color grade difference is ok.

Yes this would be fine, usual advice is to keep centre and side/ accent diamonds within 2 colour grades. Thats a lovely setting!

As for the discount just tell them you are a Pricescoper.

Okay, I think I would like to go with a F, VS1 around .8 ct

Which of these would look best (Trying to keep the diamond around $4000)

They are basically all the same. You could close your eyes and point to one of the three, and it would be fine.

Of course, there IS the non-ACA one that I linked to above that will save you $150.

Regarding the color of the setting diamonds compared to your center diamond, very small melee diamonds always look "whiter" than the same color grade in a larger diamond. This is a feature of the light return on small diamonds, which do not show much contrast and basically reflect back white light all the time -- you can''t really see the body color. Anyways, an F will look great in that setting.

Any of those ACAs would be lovely. I would pick the third one because it has the smallest table and I like small tables (FWIW, for the extra $150 I would personally like having the H&A over the ES that Julie posted. Just my 2c)

Thanks for the responses. You guys have helped me out a lot!

I ended up picking the 2nd one
http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/whiteflash-aca-cut-diamond-2231188.htm

It was also recommended by Tracy at WF based on the report.

I have taken a look at the diamonds you sent in to us. I have to say they are all equally beautiful and hard to choose from. However, at the end of the day, I would have to go with this particular diamond below. It comes down to the paper for me.

0.781 ct F VS1 Whiteflash ACA

Thanks for everyones help.
