I bought this lovely blue spinel from a fellow PS'r (thank you!), and just now got around to getting it set. I've had my eye on a setting from Diamond Zone, and finally decided to go for it. I emailed Ilya, and also had contact with Luis, both of whom were very nice to work with. I sent my stone off to them, and once they received it the turnaround was just a few days! The setting itself is so dainty and beautifully done, with a "pierced" look that reminds me of Van Craeynest in it's design. The stone came out a little darker after it was set than it was when it was loose, but now that I have the setting in hand I see it is a little closed on the sides. But I can still tell it's blue, and I love the dusty denim almost navy shade it is now.

The stone is 1.10 ct, 6.2mm, Tanzanian, nicely cut in the Portugese cut, and originally came from Prima.

Between the cost of the stone, the setting, the setting fee, and resizing... it came in at $400 total! I'm very happy with the quality of the setting, and would highly recommend Diamond Zone to anyone looking for an affordable, well executed antique style setting.

I'll start with the "glamour shots" from DZ when it was set:

And here are a few shots I took today when I received it:

Ooh, it looks lovely!! I like the color in the setting even if it's a bit darker, it's a lovely blue spinel.
So glad that you set it and that you posted pics :)

Oooh! What a gorgeous stone and setting!!! The ring looks very luxurious and for such a great pricing. I love the sculpted elements of the ring. Thanks for sharing. I am looking forward to see a lot more photo's.

Enjoy wearing this beauty!

Looks great. Always nice to see what ps'ers doing with diamondszone settings! So inspiring. I have a number of unset rounds the same size including a Tananian blue spinel. I'm interested in seeing the color before setting. Do you have a picture or is there a thread that shows it?

Here's pics taken by the PS'r who sold it to me - I'd say it was a little darker in person when it was loose than in these pics

Nice ring, thanks for sharing.

Lovely detailing! Does it feel lightweight? Does it feel sturdy? Is this custom or something off-the-shelf for DZ?

Beautiful ring! I love the antique look and the color of your blue spinel. Well done!

It was "off the shelf" - http://www.ebay.com/itm/ENGAGEMENT-...068?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5d5b25a05c

It is much more delicate in real life - I don't plan on wearing it daily, and I try not to be hard on my hands and jewelry, so I think it will be fine. I think if you wanted to set something more expensive perhaps a different setting would be better. But the detail is beautiful, and I'm quite pleased!

Pretty! I had my OMC set in the same setting last year, and was also impressed at the level of detail for the price. I've worn it a few times a week for the last year and it's not showing any wear yet.

ecf8503 Such a LOVELY stone!! Congrats on getting it set. I really like the many shades of blue your photos show. :appl: :appl:

Thanks! I do love it - a beautiful greyed navy - steely almost at times - which I love. :)

Wow, I'm really tempted to get the setting even though I don't even have a round CS.
