I just came across this 3.5 carat sapphire today, and I was wondering if the color looks good. All other aspects of this stone I really like. Any input would be appreciated. Sorry about the pic was out in the middle of nowhere again. PS has been very informitive despite my lack of resourses.

Nice riddle!

Aside the usual deadly mishaps likely when looking at nothing but a picture...

The 'look' on my monitor is that of a darkish sapphire typical for sources of basaltic origin (for ref. listed and explained somewhat down this link). The cut is more obvious - pretty flat and I would venture to guess that the window was deliberately left in to help lighten the color.

But... it could also be a very bad image of top of the line sapphire. And even so, the stone has some good going for it.

The picture shows similar finish on the stones - visible on the facets caught in glare. It looks rather usual, but I can't tell whether that is rough finish (no problem anyway), a mishap of photography because of cropping or some reflection. Interesting how all stones have it. Do they come from the same cuter? Just curious.

Thanks valeria101 I really dont know if the same cutter cut these stones. I got the majority of my stones piece by pice in separate places very far apart from eachother. One thing that could make the finish look rough is touching the stones prior to the photograph.

Aside from the flat cut and finish (probably only photo effect), I personaly do not like this colortype and would not value it very high.

It is too dark, too shady and zoned and to much ''metallic'' in there. As far as the photo goes of course only...
