Blue Nile Pave' setting for .71 E-cut 1/4 or 2/5 ctw?

TBH, it is clear neither of these will make you happy, but you are not open to other styles or suggestions so we can’t be of much help.

I'm not sure what suggestions you mean that I'm not open to, except I will never go through the custom process again locally or remotely -- given that it took 5 months without my ring, & the horrifying results of which now sit in a drawer, thousands of dollars sitting in pieces.
I'm not changing the orientation of my emerald cut; I'm not sending it off to any other jeweler. Blue Nile is efficient and kind and have gone out of their way to help me feel at peace.

I'm expressing frustration and slight remorse, and specifically some curiosity about whether prongs could be made less prominent in one of the settings I like. I figured if anyone would know about smoothing or some kind of possibility of reduction of the prongage, it would be Pricescopers.

So I sought opinions here. Those who have made understanding and encouraging, objective comments favoring the French pavé as probably the best choice for the way I wear my rings and accessory pieces have been very helpful in calming my indecisiveness between these two settings. I do feel regret that I didn't think beyond "add side baguettes" when having the setting upgraded locally in 2016. But that ship has sailed.

Thanks to all who have generously, patiently indulged my questions and offered their opinions reinforcing the decision I made on the versatile setting I currently have.

Love these combos! This option is super versatile as it combines so well with your bands. Classic with an edge. Good for you for trying to relax about this. How does it feel now that you have been able to think about it a bit more?

Feel calmer today, thanks to your reassurance. I do have a bit invested in bands and wraps and such. I even have a couple that sit on top of the pavé, which probably isn't a good idea for setting health. I can make this one bolder with additions. It's probably the smart logical choice!

Your first post says you don’t need suggestions just to help you decide between two choices. Now you are saying those 2 don’t work. That is why I made that comment.

I guess I should've started a new thread. I did decide between the 2 pavé bands, that's not the issue now. I didn't need suggestions about where I should buy, is what I meant.

Before seeking opinions on those pavé settings, I had already bought and returned another setting that's been mentioned and shown, the setting with vertical side baguettes and 2 rounds on each side. I had mentioned it was prong-y and more blunt than other rings I've had. That's why I sent it back so quickly. Maybe too quickly, I started thinking, as the return window closes for the setting I've had for 3 weeks.

But I came across the pics of that first setting that I took the one day I had it, and, given that I still have have a few days left to return this French pavé setting, I started to wonder if I would have kept it if there was a way to polish down the prongs and soften the shank.

Some are familiar with my long custom resetting nightmare, and that I had always wanted side baguettes, for 10+years. I had never considered having them set vertically in 2016 when I started the custom process.

This setting pictured here, I really really loved, and thought it flattered my stone. I like the pavé band I chose of the two I'd asked about. Blue Nile kindly let me compare them side by side and for that style, I'm happy with the one I kept.

I do still love the look of the Colin Cowie ring I had returned before posting about the 2 pavé band styles I was comparing.

So I guess it must have seemed confusing for me to be talking about another style. But it's a style that would've been perfect if it had not had such prominent prongs and a sharply-edged shank. I prefer icy to sparkly, and more comfort than this felt.

So my current dilemma isn't about comparing .24 ctw to .43 ctw in a simple pavé, but about whether I could've made this other style work with some special polishing.

I still don't know if prongs can be made less prominent, but if they could be, I'd prefer this setting with all the carats in the middle, and side baguettes, instead of the pavé settings with diamonds that are hidden by my side fingers.

Sorry I didn't make that clear or start a new thread about my fondness for the almost perfect setting that came a week before my original post.

I still think of it, but the prongs were so uncomfortable and visible. I did think it was quite pretty and maybe flattered my e cut better. It just seen seemed a bit clumsily executed. "Mall-ring" I thought.

So I was kinda thinking out loud here about it...with a few days to change my mind.

I'm late on this thread but was intrigued because I've had a lot of the same dilemmas with my .71 EC (less face than yours at 5.93 x 4.24 x 2.93). It's been in 3 different settings over 10 years, all equally frustrating. The one I liked the most was a blue nile one- the riviera pave heirloom cathedral. I currently have a custom in the works with CVB_ID, that seems like it may take less than a month from start to finish. I haven't been able to wear mine in almost 3 years because of an oil burn then sizing issues, so I understand your frustration and just wanting to have something work for once! Anyway, did you decide to stick with the blue nile pave? I think I liked that the most out of your pics, it really did look great.

Hi! It's been a journey, but I did keep the 1/4ct French pavé engagement ring setting, 2mm. It just seemed to work with the 6x4 whatever size of my e-cut.
But -- they had a platinum sale a few weeks after, and guess what happened? We bought the 1/2ct
Scalloped pavé band, 2.5mm wide. I like they that are different in size, I'm not so much for the matchy-matchy.

I considered the Riviera, but was told by my consultant that it had more of a heavier setting that might feel as if was spreading my fingers and show more metal than I might like.

So, here they are, comfortable, love them, they're really pretty and flattering to my hand. Engagement ring is size 6, the Scalloped pavé is a 5.5.
People have really commented on them. Perfect for me, best of both worlds/ct weights.

Now I have two platinum settings to sell, somehow!
