I posted this under Rocky Talk...but I thought I would try here too (if it isn''t against the rules!:)

Can you please enlighten me if this is a good diamond and a good deal?

I am looking for a 2.00 - 2.50 carat cushion cut, preferably with as close to a 1:00 ratio as possible. E-G color, VS1-SI2, no fluoro, very good cut, polish, symmetry...all that good stuff. I know very little about depth measurements, but I obviously want it to be as large on the face (I think it''s called?) as possibleand I think the one above is too deep and won''t show very large. The height of the price range is about $16,000

I would love advice or links to what you all are able to find under these parameters. From what I''ve seen, all of you PS''ers are geniuses.

Thank you!

Without any photos it''s impossible to tell about the bluenile stone. Have you looked anywhere else? Mark at Engagement Rings Direct is known for his cushions. Have you looked at Good Old Gold''s selection? Probably best to call one of them and see what they have.

thanks. I hadnt heard of the first one you mentioned. I''ll check it out.

I don''t know much about cushions, but you should find out what good measurements and ratios are for the shape that you are considering. A stone will face up larger with a more shallow cut, but this will result in diminished light return. You should focus on optimal light return, not surface area. However, a 2+ carat anything is going to look large!

dont let not being able to see the diamond right away deter you...look at the numbers and figure out if they are what you like...blue nile ships for free and has a great return policy...

my FI bought our cushion from blue nile and he didnt see it before hand...he just saw that it fit all the requirements that he wanted and it was cut with an 8-main so he bought it and it was perfect...

You can also ask vendors to retrieve any diamond you see on blue nile if you want them to take pictures etc...i believe that white flash charges a fee per diamond tho. My FI decided to just buy the diamond off of bluenile because he didnt want to risk loosing it to another buyer...

here''s our ring

MsMsty..thanks so much for the great info...and the vote of confidence.

It''s funny becasue I just saw your post with your ring before seeing your reply to my post and it is GORGEOUS! It is almost exactly the type of setting I am looking for (Leann RImes ring is my inspiration) and it is EXACTLY the shape I want. What are your dimensions/ratio? You are a very lucky girl.
Did your FI have the setting designed and if so, where?

Thanks so much!

My FI designed the setting himself...he brought scetches that he drew to our jeweler and worked with the jeweler on the wax molds until it got it to exactly how he wanted it. he did really good...=) i''ve had an exceptional amount of compliments on the ring and alot of people have told me its the prettiest they''ve seen...(he gets a little big headed..lol)

its a 1.596ct cushion brilliant. its perfect square, i believe it was 6.99 x 6.99 x 4.67, ex cut, polish and symmetry and the ratio is 1.00

I just noticed what your requirements are. I just thought i would warn you that anything in the higher end of your range will most likely run you more than 16k for the size your looking for. I definitely recommend that you try to find cushions that have ex cut/symmetry combo as that will make it shine like a beauty (like most ps''er say, the cut will make or break the diamond). our cushion was on the top end of your requirements (F, VS1, ex/ex) and it cost 16k. We also saw a 1.53 ct cushion after we bought ours that had almost the same specs (except the clarity was a VS2) and it was $16,800. im not sure, but i think they may have been marking up the diamond because of the way its cut (8-main), the ratio (1.00) and the ex/ex cut/symmetry combo as these seem to be harder to find than the cushion modified brilliant (during the time we were looking there were very few on the market), of course thats all speculation on my part...=P. recently we''ve seen a few that have the same date as our on the cert and the same 8-main with the stopsign table design...we think the same guy has been cutting these...its pretty neat. we''v also noticed alot more 8-main cuts available which is awesome since i love the way it looks!

good luck on your search!

For a stone that size you should work with one of the great vendors represented on PS. No matter what the specs say having a pair of trusted eyes is your best bet. These vendors are so willing to look for you and help select something perfect.
