Hi there!

We've been doing quite a bit of research on emerald cut diamonds and stumbled across this stone on Blue Nile. Could someone help me understand why the price point is so low? Is there anything in particular that is glaringly wrong with this stone that I don't see (or possible understand :loopy:)?

Emerald Cut: Blue Nile Signature Ideal
Color: F
Clarity VVS2
Depth: 62.4%
Table: 63%
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Very Good
Girdle: Slightly thick to thick
Culet: Small
fluorescence: None

The two things that stand out to me are girdle and culet. Since this stone is a Blue Nile Signature Ideal cut they've included a GCLA report...

Any thoughts, guidance, or opinions would be wonderful!

Is the link to the correct EC? The basic cut info on the GCAL does not match what you typed.
GCAL
Table 61%
Depth 62.7%

BN
Table 63%
Depth 62.4%

A thick gidle only means that it is holding extra weight there. Not a big deal unless it varies greatly or is extremely thin. As for the culet, the picture of the actual EC shows it coming to a point, so again, I wonder if the memo is for the correct stone.

Thanks so much for your help! This is my first time posting :))

Hmm... there is some inconsistency across the GCAL, GIA, and BN stats (below). I'm not sure if that's normal or not.

I did read somewhere that the depth should be greater than the table, but I often see differing opinions on EC diamonds. Is there a 'golden' standard for them? Light performance is so dependent upon the quality of the cut... even more so for an EC I feel.

BN
Depth: 62.4%
Table: 63%

GCAL
Depth: 62.7%
Table: 61%

GIA
Depth: 62.5%
Table: 63%

Re: Blue Nile Emerald Cut - What do you think about this sto

As long as the table is small and depth not too deep (both under 65%), the risk of a dud EC goes down but is not a guarantee of a well performing diamond. Unfortunately, there is no golden standard or even remotely close to one. And yes, light performance is incredibly important and dependent on the quality of the cut. I think this stone certainly deserves a look in person because it looks promising.
