Hello All,

I am considering buying a G VS1 1.70 diamond from Blue Nile (table 61%, depth 59.1%, crown angle 33, pavilion angle 41, medium girdle 3.5%, excellent cut/polish/symmetry, cutlet none, fluorescence none). The price is $19,066.00.

I would appreciate any feedback on this diamond as I've never purchased one before. I am concerned about the inclusions...there are crystals, clouds, and needles. I would rather not see the inclusions without magnification, which is why I choose VS1. I have heard crystal inclusions can be different colors? Is it possible that I would see them without magnification? Does this purchase seem like a good idea?

Thanks!!!

for a vs1 diamond, you are safe on the clarity side. the grading takes into account the color of the inclusions.

Cut wise, you probably need more details.

The table is too big. You can do better. Do you have to buy from blue nile?

I didn't know that grade takes color of inclusion into account...great info.

I don't have to buy from Blue Nile. When I first started looking at diamonds, I got some prices from Tiffany's...then I compared the prices to Blue Nile and realized that I could get a better diamond (based on 4 c's) for a significantly lower price. Blue Nile is the only online retailor that I'm familiar with...

I was hoping to find something around 1.75 carats G VS1-ish ex-ex-ex GIA graded in the area of $20K. I would love any suggestions!

Thanks for the responses!

I greatly appreciate the suggestions! I guess the reason that I choose G VS1 is that I really don't want color or inclusions to be noticeable to the naked eye. There are just sooooo many options in the ~ GVS1 1.75 carat ex-ex-ex category...I've even been using the cut advisor to narrow it down a bit. I'm just nervous about making a bad 20K purchase...I have been learning lots about diamonds but I realize that most of you know plenty more than I can learn in a few months. I assume James Allen and Whiteflash are online only jewelry vendors like Blue Nile? Are they safe to buy from?

While the four Cs may be fairly important the fifth C is the one that will dictate how you feel about your diamond long-term. Is it a conflict-free diamond? If it is a Blue Nile diamond then there is chance that it may have been cut and polished in Israel where the diamond industry is a major source of funding for the Israeli military which stands accused of war crimes by the UN HRC, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch. Google and learn before you chose - http://electronicintifada.net/content/diamond-industrys-double-standard-israel/10102

Blue Nile claims that they sell conflict free diamonds, as does James Allen. I'm not very familiar with James Allen though.

I assumed that having an ex-ex-ex GIA diamiand that scored <2 on the cut advisor meant that the table % / depth % / crown angle / pavilion angle were acceptable...should I be paying more attention to these variables?
