I have eleven 1-carat Black Star of India stones...some of them aren''t polished very well, while the rest are. Does anyone have an idea as to how much these are worth, individually?

Here is what the rest look like...

what are they?? star sapphires?

Guy, according to an article I read recently, they''re Black Star Diopsides...easily confused with Black Star Sapphires. Any ideas on how much they might be?

Not very much. JTV has many for sale, you could check out their site to find exact prices.

if they star then they might be worth something but if they are black and thats it maybe a 10 cents a piece

Very little; probably just a few cents each.

Doesn''t diopsides have 4 armed stars, instead of 6 like a sapphire?

I think you might be right, lady D

These are made by pure Indian stone, and we can polish it with different colors. Generally, these black star uses in rings, artificial garland, etc.

Yes, and one ray is always at a slight angle, not a perfect +. This is very inexpensive material and it cleaves (splits) very easily in addition to being quite soft, about 5.5 Mohs. It is frequently sold fraudulently as black star sapphire but the difference is immediately apparent to the trained eye.
