What is the most common way to make black gold? Is it just a plating over white gold or is something mixed in with the gold to colour it such mixing in copper to make rose gold?

In my experience it seems not to take too much handling for the dark black to start wearing off, what colour will the metal be once the black has worn off? Is there any way to stop the black wearing off?

Is it just like rhodium plating where a jeweller can "re-black" the item or is it not quite so easy? Or is it more like electroplating?

From what I know black gold is rhodium plated gold, just like white gold except that the rhodium has a distinctive black color (I imagine they must add another metal for the color, but I don't know which one ?).

And yes, just like white gold, the rhodium plating will wear off. It can take between 6 month to 2 years to wear off depending on how you care for your ring (and can certainly be replated?)

I don't own black gold myself but has already seen such rings and it's not very shiny (at least not the one that I saw, maybe there are different finishing available?).

Hope this helps!

The problem I'm having is that the black on the bangle (which was purchased at Christmas time) has already started wearing off.

I just don't know and can't find enough about black gold to know what to do about it.

If you have a Damiani boutiques near you, you can ask them how do you maintain the black gold. They use black gold in the metropolitan dream collection, so I think they can help you

That's a good idea, it shouldn't wear off so fast. Do you have a possibility to
go back to thé store where it was bought? They should be able to give you some advice...

Talk with the place where you got it. Not everyone does it the same way. Sometimes it's rhodium plating, sometimes it's enamel, sometimes it's just paint.
