Two strands of birthday pearls are on their way to me!

First strand: golden south sea baroque

Second strand: multicolour Chinese smooth kasumi (ripples)

I'm almost certainly going to change the clasp on the multicolours

Drooling here :lickout:. I hope you'll get them soon! Absolutely marvelous! What are You doing with those rest of golden pearls???

Hi Confection,
Thanks so much!

I'll probably do a choker strand with the South Seas! The first strand is only 11 inches (and no one's neck is that small!), so I got some additional ones to lengthen it with.

I got a larger drop to be a enhancer and drops for earrings too!

Oh me newbie . Did I understand correct; You will make them by yourself???

Wow, I love the golden strand! Where did you get them from?

Happy Birthday periwinklegirl!

Both strands are beautiful! The Kasumis for their distinctiveness and the goldens because of their glow! The both look like their good size pearls too - what mm range are they?

I look forward to seeing the final product!

Hi Confection,
Yes, I will string them myself. I learned how to string pearls last spring. It's pretty easy with a bit of practice and I really enjoy the design aspect (plus just plain playing with pearls!). I often have the whole dining covered when I'm working on a design.

I haven't yet started trying to attach drilled pearls to pendants or posts. Pattye and I were just discussing appropriate glues.

Thanks sortmom and pkinnew!
The golden south seas are from The Merry Bead on Etsy. I've bought a few things from her I was pleased with.
They are from 8.5 x 9.5mm to 10 x 12mm. I actually only have the first two pearls so far, but the colour was so lovely that I wanted more! I know that they're not the best quality (AA to A), but they're nice affordable salt waters (and loose pearls are often discounted compared to strands), and I've learned that I'm actually fussier about bracelets (which I look at all day) than necklaces (which I see only in the mirror and from a distance).

The kasumis are from Sound Pearls (also Etsy), but I haven't seen them in person yet, so can't comment on the quality.

When I get the golden south sea strand done I'll post pics! And same for the kasumis once I see them on person.

:appl: :appl: :appl: Happy Birthday :appl: :appl: :appl: and great pearls too. Enjoy!

Wow! Gorgeous. Do you have a favorite?

Thanks so much 4 Ranch Girl!

Innerkitten, I don't yet have them in person, so I don't know yet. But I suspect that it will be the golden south seas. I already have some of the Chinese kasumis and I like them but they don't wow me in the same way.
Of course, this strand has a nice range of colours, so it might surprise me.
I'll be sure to post pics!

And here are the baroques I got from the Pearl Society. These will be earrings. (12.5 x 13.5 and 12.7 x 13.1).
Not an exact match, but the shape is similar and the size is close enough for me.

Oh okay. Well I can't wait to hear what they're like when you get them. They sure look nice in the pics.

There is something special about South Sea pearls and I also love the goldens.

Happy Birthday and enjoy your lovely new pearls :wavey:

Thanks Litgeek!

I agree Innerkitten,
I'm starting have the south sea bug! Just picked up a few silvery malukus. :)
They are 10 x 9.5mm.

Sweet! What are you going to do with them?

Still deciding. But without seeing any of them in person yet, I'm thinking maybe they could go with the blue akoya and souffle combination.

I suspect that I'll lay them all out on the table and mull it over!

They're so warm, lustrous and beautiful!!

Thanks! That's exactly what I love about golden south seas. And they seem to have depth.

The ones you chose for earrings is a cute pair. Happy Birthday!

Thanks!

I'm a little hesitant about the weight, but then I remembered that I have white freshwater drops that are 10 x 12 and I wear them with no problems, so hopefully these won't be too much heavier.

Happy Bday! Great gifts :appl:

Thanks! It's always easier when we get to pick our own gifts. And it's certainly easier for me to branch into South Seas when it's a gift from someone else! I buy most of my own pearls, so this is a treat! :)

Love your Maluku pearls! So silvery & shiny!

OK, here are the South Seas. I spent a happy fifteen minutes sorting them into a graduated strand.

Deep golden treasures! Great job graduating them into a strand too! Can't wait to see them on you.
